In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers to define, design and deliver of critical document related capabilities that can be leveraged across all business channels, allowing teams to achieve their core mission. You and your team will be focused on offering cohesion across the organization from document generation to storage and collaboration across the enterprise. 

 

The Technology Manager’s primary responsibility is to partner with their business areas and provide technology solutions and services that help deliver CarMax’s strategic mission and plans. This position will direct and manage the strategic planning, software development, implementation, administration and maintenance for a large suite of application systems. This includes development of long and short-term technology solutions that address business goals and deliver improved profitability, efficiency and an unrivaled associate experience. 

 

What you will do 

 

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Lead engineers in building doc management related capabilities by providing them with the resources, feedback, and a sounding-board to be successful in their roles balancing technical debt with a speed-to-delivery customer focused team 

  • Identify high performing talent, gaps in talent, and recruit, train and develop associates to close those gaps 

  • Mentor and develop future leaders in courageous leadership, associate development, and communication skills 

  • Identify the appropriate goals for the team 

  • Communicate the team’s vision to executive management while also providing guidance for the team to support the strategic direction 

 

Technical Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years' experience in software engineering of highly scalable services platforms/ecosystems 

  • 3+ years’ experience in building and managing document related systems 

  • 3+ years’ experience in Cloud Engineering and/or SaaS products 

  • Knowledge of container technologies, version control systems (GitHub), build management and CI/CD tools and monitoring tools, preferred. 

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Content Management technologies such as Box, FileNet, OpenText, etc., preferred 

  • Knowledge of Document Generation technologies, including Adobe and DocuSign, preferred 

 

Management Qualifications: 

  • BS/BA degree - IT related, preferred 

  • 1 to 3+ years' experience managing direct reports 

  • 3+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills – apply clear direction and priorities to teams 

  • Innovative; thinks beyond boundaries 

  • Passionate about information technology; continuous learner and improvement mentality 

  • Analytical; solves problems at root cause and prioritizes effectively 

  • Comfortable speaking to large audiences and executives 

  • Flexible and open-minded; proactively seeks input from others 

  • Able to easily motivate and inspire team members, peers, stakeholders, and executives 

  • Entrepreneurial drive and spirit; enjoys working in a fast-paced environment 

  • Handles constructive criticism with ease; adapts easily and efficiently to change 

  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work for any U.S. employer on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will be considered for this specific role. 

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Plano, TX or Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center and have a Hybrid work arrangement 

Work Authorization:  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
