Role overview
Reporting to the Company Secretary and Head of Legal, the incumbent will provide general administrative support and legal services to the legal and company secretarial team. This role involves conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing contracts, managing corporate governance matters, and assisting with compliance and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling sensitive legal matters with discretion. The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through their own efforts.
Key Performance Areas
Legal Function
- Provide a legal support role to the BU Executive to enable them effectively discharge their duties.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive legal documents and communication.
- Act as a consultant with respect to decision making of legal operational and/or tactical importance.
- Provide support in regulatory compliance matters, including undertaking research, monitoring changes in relevant laws and regulations and preparing presentations, reports, legal opinions and meeting materials.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents ensuring the completeness of agreements and accuracy of records maintained
- Manage and maintain a centralized repository for legal documents, contracts, and handling correspondence.
- Organizing case files, coordinating with external counsel and tracking deadlines.
Secretariat Function
- Maintain and organize corporate governance records and various databases, including minute books, company registers etc.
- Provide administrative support such as scheduling meetings, taking minutes and board member support.
Admin Responsibilities
- Undertake budget tracking, invoice processing and follow through on timely payment, and overall legal department expense management.
- Undertake all corporate compliance filings through the statutory online registries such as FSRA, etc.
Personal Capacity Building
- Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfil personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
Qualifications and experience required
- A bachelor’s degree in law (LLB)
- Admission as an admitted attorney, shall be an added advantage
- 3 - 5 years’ relevant experience preferably in an in-house legal department or law firm
- Demonstrated proficiency with the Ms Office Suite
- Knowledge of legal terminology, contract management, and corporate governance principles.

This role is responsible for providing support from a legal perspective, and for preparing legal documents. This role describes both Corporate and Business Unit Legal Advisors.

Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.
Document Preparation
Organize and prepare complex documents using a variety of applications for technology devices, such as standard office software. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for special reports.
Internal Communications
Help others get the most out of internal communications systems by offering support and advice.
External Communications
Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice.
Recommendations
Advise managers how to apply a wide variety of existing procedures and precedents.
Solutions Analysis
Interpret data and identify possible answers. Involves navigating a wide variety of processes, procedures, and precedents.
Policy Development and Implementation
Work within established procedures to achieve specified goals.
