Job Description
This role is for a lawyer with a technology focus, reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary. Your focus will be to support the business, operations, and tech teams on contracts with third parties (including with group entities) to support Trust and its customer value proposition. You will help with the overall strategy in these areas and be a key decision maker for the legal team. You will also be required to do the heavy lifting as an individual contributor on our lean and enthusiastic team. In addition to your technology focus, you will also work on other legal matters, including supporting one of our banking products, and on other general legal matters. We are an all-hands-on-deck kind of team, and we are all therefore “general” counsels in work that we cover – not specialised on a singular area.
The Role Responsibility:
- First point of contact on legal team for the business for any third-party contracts (including with group entities), lead these contract negotiations, drafting, and suggest solutions whenever possible
- Coordinate workflow of contracts to be signed, including assigning contracts to others on the legal team
- Provide updates to the business on overall status of legal contract workstream
- Provide legal advice, drafting and transactional support to the business with a focus on third-party contracts and retail banking
- Assist in the development and periodic review of standard bank documentation, including templates, policies, and procedures.
- Provide innovative and commercially minded legal support for third-party contracts, the development of new products and product governance
- Work with other functions (including Compliance and Risk) to ensure that robust diligence processes, documentation, and pre and post governance are properly embedded
- Ensure material legal risks are identified and appropriately mitigated
- Manage and support legal and regulatory risks in the selling of at least one of Trust’s products
- Interface with Compliance colleagues on regulatory issues
- Manage external counsel (when needed), including providing instructions and negotiating fee structures
- Develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external business stakeholders ensuring an open and cooperative environment
- Provide advice, briefings, recommendations and reports on material legal risks and issues to stakeholders
- Suggest, coordinate and lead training activities for other lawyers in the team (and the wider group) from time to time

- Singapore qualified lawyer with at least 5 years’ experience
- Comfortable with difficult and new laws, regulations, and practices, always with a can-do, solutions driven attitude
- Experience in and understanding of retail products and/or technology products

- Strong analytical and innovative legal skills
