The purpose of the Legal Assistant I, Licenses and Examinations is to support the Chief Legal Officer and Legal Counsel – Senior Manager, Compliance in the assessment and response to regulatory inquiries, including state and federal initiated examinations, investigations, licensing matters as well as the creation and dissolution of entities. Additionally ensuring that the Company has and maintains the proper licenses. NOTE: This position will primarily work from home. Occasional planned travel to the Southfield office location will be required.


 

Outcomes & Activities:

  • This position will work from home and also require some work onsite at an assigned office work location.
  • Monitor, maintain, and timely renew all Company and subsidiary licenses, state annual report filings, registration statements, certificates of authority, d/b/a certificates and bond renewals.
  • Support attorneys who handle examinations and regulatory matters. This includes:
    • Drafting responses to regulatory inquiries with attorney supervision;
    • Managing discovery requests (e.g., coordinating meetings/interviews; timely and efficiently gathering, organizing, and assembling voluminous materials; and performing document reviews);
    • Managing electronic files; and
    • Maintaining accurate records of requests, responses, and materials
  • Support monitoring and auditing activities performed by the Compliance Department. This includes compiling and analyzing data and reviewing accounts and records.
  • Provide administrative support to department leadership as requested.
  • Perform other compliance-related activities as requested.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrates strong initiative and ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision and collaborating effectively with team members to achieve team objectives.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and concisely to all levels of the organization and regulators.
  • Ability to remain positive, professional, determined, calm and focused when faced with challenging situations.
  • Open and receptive to ongoing feedback aimed at improving performance.
  • Be organized, able to multi-task, and able to prioritize multiple requests to meet all deadlines.
  • Be self-driven, motivated to help, and able to perform with minimal supervision in a team environment.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of recent and relevant compliance work experience in financial services industry, law firm, or legal department.
  • Licenses and Examination team members will be required to obtain Notary Public appointment. This process would need to be initiated no later than 30 days from the date of hire on the Licenses and Examinations Team.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience with assessing and responding to regulatory inquiries, including state and federal initiated examinations, audits and investigations.
  • Quickly learn and become a subject matter expert in new systems/processes.

Targeted Compensation: $24.50 - $33.50 per hour + an annual bonus plan.
