The Data Platforms team plays a unique role by delivering a powerful suite of capabilities & tools for Target Team Members and Target’s vast network of vendors to effectively and efficiently turn our data into a strategic advantage. Through the full end-to-end supply chain of data, from source to dashboard, we ensure each technical and non-technical person has the right tools to access, use, and communicate with data. As part of our strategic evolution, we are driving a major data enterprise-wide transformation to modernize our data platform and re-shape the way that we manage and leverage data across the organization.

As a Lead Technical Program Manager, you serve as the technical anchor for our data platform, ensuring scalable, easy, and cost-effective storage, processing, and serving of our critical analytical data. You will provide the program management function for our large organization to champion, own and drive forward our strategic plan to modernize our data platform. You will develop keen understanding of the solution designs to deliver new business capabilities and can distil the technical scope for each product team. You align product roadmaps and priorities to ensure timely delivery of the program goals across multiple engineering teams, as well as key stakeholder/user teams.  You provide program leadership, anticipate bottlenecks, mitigate risks and quantify the impact of making tradeoffs. You will be the bridge between Product and Engineering teams by ensuring Extreme transparency in prioritization and delivery roadmap. You will build a framework in which all stakeholders can prioritize work together.  You serve as a point for program risk and are responsible for driving the necessary actions to mitigate.  You monitor, track and report the health of the program to the stakeholders. You provide regular updates on the programs to leadership and serve as a single contact point for any emergent changes to the program's scope and size. You will be expected to run scrum of scrums at different levels to ensure transparency, fluidity and robustness in the system.

You decompose large organizational goals to individual product’s scope, partner with product partners to align product priorities with program timelines, create and maintain delivery plans by aligning product schedules and dependencies, manage engineering dependencies across products and track engineering deliverables, identify and track program risks and develop mitigation plans, develop and own communication plans to effectively and proactively communicate program status, issues, and risks to stakeholders, manage changes in scope and size of the program, manage technical escalations, facilitate cross functional design sessions and technical analysis.

About You:

  • 4-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in software engineering industry or technical program management
  • 2+ years’ experience in working in Agile Methodologies
  • Proven capability of having run large scale projects which required coordination amongst numerous stakeholders
  • Ability to influence without authority and drive process change across multiple teams
  • Experience in delivering large projects with cross functional deliverables
  • Good understanding of microservices-based architectures
  • Understanding of data science, machine learning, and data engineering
  • Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure a plus
  • Experience in data engineering, data science, or data analytics a plus
  • Experience driving enterprise level transformation a plus

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
