What you’ll do at Elekta
Are you passionate about developing cutting-edge software that makes a real positive impact in people’s lives? Join our team and play a key role in developing the real-time embedded software that controls multiple axes in our radiation therapy devices to safely deliver radiation to patients.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you’ll be involved in every stage of the development lifecycle—requirements, design, implementation, and testing—while leveraging your strong C++ skills to build secure, modern, and maintainable solutions. You’ll be a part of a dynamic team of 15+ engineers, split into two agile Scrum teams, where you’ll contribute to developing new product features for our Linear Accelerator machines and radiation therapy product portfolio. You’ll work across a range of devices, from full-fledged Linux systems to bare-metal microcontrollers, utilizing various communication protocols and design patterns.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Software implementation, primarily in C++, including unit and integration tests
- Designing architecture and creating detailed documentation
- Reviewing code and software related artifacts
- Mentoring colleagues and sharing knowledge
- Staying updated on technical and clinical advancements in the field
- Understanding and adhering to the Elekta quality system, introducing improvements to its effectiveness.
What you bring
We are looking for a proactive and collaborative software engineer with a can-do attitude and a systems-thinking approach. Your ability to drive results, collaborate effectively within a team, and contribute to a supportive and fun work environment will be key to your success in this role.
We believe you should also have:
- A university degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in software engineering within a product development organization.
- Strong C++ skills, with a passion for writing clean, safe, and maintainable code.
- Solid understanding of software architecture for large-scale projects.
- Professional proficiency in English.
- Experience in regulated industries, such as medical technology, is a plus.
Additional merits include experience with or strong interest in one or more of the following:
- Real-time systems
- Control theory, e.g., servo control
- Fieldbus communication technologies (CAN, EtherCAT)
- Board Support Package development (e.g. DMA, UART, USB, Ethernet)
- ZeroMQ, Protobuf
- Unit testing framework, like Catch2
- CMake and build systems in general
- CI/CD integration
- Linux
- Yocto
- Development of test frameworks, simulators and/or emulators.
