Disney Experiences (DX) - Technology and Digital, a division of the Walt Disney Company, creates world-class immersive digital experiences for premier vacation brands including Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, Hong Kong Disneyland, Shanghai Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani and Disney Vacation Club. The DX Technology & Digital team has responsibility for the end-to-end, digital-plus-physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives, across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business.
The team is responsible for concept development, defining and implementing these initiatives in collaboration with Operations Integration, Site Operations, Consumer Insights, Facility Asset Management, Walt Disney Imagineering, Finance, and Human Resources. Additionally, the team also builds many Cast-facing technology tools to improve efficiency and experience. This role will be in the DX Commerce Architecture team, supporting Lodging, Ticketing, Travel Trade and Ecommerce business domains.
This Lead Software Architect will help guide and build tools for our DX group. Some of the responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Designing solutions based on organizational strategy
  • Developing enterprise level application and custom integration solutions, including major enhancements and interfaces, functions and features for multiple, sophisticated systems ensuring high-performance and reliability of the solution
  • Defining application tiers, frameworks, and interfaces for complex projects
  • Identifying specifications, then planning, designing, and developing complex and business critical software solutions, using appropriate software engineering processes with an emphasis on reusability
  • At times, leading technical project teams during the design, development, testing, and implementation of sophisticated application systems. Resolves the most difficult support problems
  • Researching and implementing industry trends in solutions, procedures, and tools for application architecture
  • Helping to design, development standards, and procedures as well as designing architectures for code reuse
  • Participating in program-level application architecture decisions to resolve appropriate solutions
  • Proactively expand knowledge of software tools, languages, scripts, and shells that effectively support the application development environment in different operating system environments.
  • Advocating technical standards and providing project-level work product reviews
  • Analyzing existing application environments to prepare them for future strategic migration. Providing architectural guidance for a project
  • Accountable for quality, completeness, and timely delivery of an assigned project
  • Collaborating well with teams and individuals across multiple disciplines


Basic Requirements

  • 7+ years relevant Architecture experience
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience developing and delivering complex enterprise applications with hands-on experience in Java/J2EE, Spring, XML, JSON and graph QL.
  • Deep understanding of AWS and other cloud providers, proven experience working within "Cloud first" architectures, with a practical knowledge of cloud and hybrid cloud implementations.
  • Proficient in multiple architectural modeling technologies
  • Experience architecting digital and mobile solutions
  • Understanding of software design patterns (Micro Services), networks, and protocols
  • Extensive understanding of Engineering Technologies (Java, NoSQL, Node.js, Relational Databases)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence engineers, peers, and senior stakeholders to consensus decisions
  • Proven experience in driving the architecture of complex technical programs across large numbers of stakeholders, multi-functional teams, requirements, and implementations.
  • Knowledge of industry standard project execution methodologies like Agile/SCRUM or Agile/Kanban, along with a working understanding of epic, story, and task level sizing and planning activities.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong executive presentation and speaking skills.
  • TOGAF certification
  • 3+ years of experience architecting Lodging, Trade, and Ticketing systems (software both client and back-office) solutions
  • Prior experience with Disney's business and our applications


Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent industry experience
