The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Full Stack Engineer to lead the core site experience team at Caraway Home. This role will report directly to the Director of Engineering and help to develop our first engineering pods. You will work closely with the cross-functional Digital Product team to deliver a best-in-class e-commerce experience. As the lead engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring technical solutions are scalable, performant, and meet all stakeholder requirements. Additionally, you will also ensure the core experience team can execute on tasks efficiently to meet product requirements and participate in all aspects of the development lifecycle including strategy, development, testing and sprint planning.

The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced developer and demonstrates a deep passion for crafting exceptional e-commerce experiences. You will also lead technical design and implementation efforts across our core site experience. You deeply care about building for scale, reusability and quality. Serving as a lead, you will also provide oversight and mentorship to the team by conducting code reviews and ensuring the team follows best practices. You have a keen eye for design, strong QA ability and have a knack for writing clean, optimized code. You are skilled at troubleshooting and fixing bugs, identifying bottlenecks, and improving efficiency, while also providing technical solution guidance to remove blockers and mitigate risks. 

You are highly motivated, proactive, and thrive in highly collaborative environments. You are able to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams and find it easy to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define scope, develop and implement robust scalable solutions across our customer facing web experience
  • Lead and mentor a team of developers contributing to a positive team culture
  • Efficiently manage engineering resources through sprint planning, polishing up tickets, and mitigating challenges and roadblocks for the team, ensuring on time delivery of project timelines, deliverables, and resources 
  • Design, build, and scale web platforms for high-traffic applications, requiring the ability to prioritize effectively and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Perform thorough QA testing including cross-browser/platform compatibility in partnership with the QA Engineer to identify bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and troubleshoot bugs
  • Contribute to the maintenance of comprehensive technical documentation and write technical documentation as needed
  • Implement third-party pixels and work with analytic tools to support data-driven decision making
  • Act as a central engineering point of contact for cross functional teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment of engineering resourcing, goals and strategies

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • 6+ years of experience in full stack development
  • 2+ years of experience working in e-commerce, direct to consumer is preferred
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Expertise in developing, maintaining, and reviewing frontend and backend code; utilizing modern HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and web APIs
  • Writes clean modular code and wants to craft beautiful customer-facing experiences
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento, or BigCommerce required
  • Experience with a use of a react framework such as Gatsby or Next in a production environment
  • Self-starter with a passion for learning and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable bridging the gap between technical and non-technical audiences

The anticipated base salary range for this role ​is $135,000 - $160,000 - Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
