PSCU/Co-op Solutions is now Velera! PSCU and Co-op Solutions became a single entity on January 2, 2024, and our new company name was announced on May 7, 2024. Our new brand represents our combined company’s shared mission and unique ability to drive velocity and positive momentum for credit union success in a new era of financial services.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a uniquely talented Experience Engineer to rapidly build out design-forward prototypes to support high-integrity user research. The engineer will provide fast, well-reasoned code that can be extended and built upon as the testable features crystallize into valued solutions. This role will be embedded into a tightly woven, collaborative, cross-functional group of experts all focused on transforming our customers' experiences with and around our product suite. You’ll participate in regular group meetings with this team.

Day in the Life:

  • Code rough designs into functional prototyped solutions based on research, review the usability testing of the prototype, and help grow and evolve the prototypes before sending them through the pipeline to be integrated into new products.

  • Balance speed, adaptability, and high quality: some outputs will fail to be validated with users and will need to be dismantled or reworked with a minimum of effort. But design sets a high bar, and technology must meet or exceed the vision.

  • Be independent in creating a solution for a roughly-defined problem, or look to design cues and elements to fill in blanks that may be missing in a design prototype, including sometimes giving multiple possible options for evaluation. Reach out to relevant colleagues as needed to review options and move forward.

  • Be the expert for your field among the entire group: be the reviewer of last resort, define best practices for the group, and be open-minded to change as technology moves forward.

  • Present to the group periodically on changes in the industry and tools to consider for future projects.

  • Understand the business case and big picture for the product and individual features. Be able to suggest and implement independent experimental proposals, balancing the company’s needs and the user’s needs to ensure that solutions are viable ahead of time, given technical complexity and effort. Propose alternate solutions when those two sets of needs conflict.

  • You will get exposure to researchers’ findings and designers’ early work, so that you can offer alternative technical possibilities for designers to consider as they work through problems.

  • Present completed work through inspiring storytelling: be able to make the case for what you built on a technical and user-focused lens and why it’s better.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science or related field or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 10+ years experience in software engineering, with a preference for a mix of different size teams, from solo to enterprise environments, or: a computer science or related 4-year degree and 6 years experience.

  • Minimum experience of 3+ years with React.js projects.

  • Minimum experience of 5+ years working with JavaScript and CSS.

  • Domain knowledge / experience in the financial services/FinTech industry is a plus.

  • A background in design or a demonstrable history of working across fields with design teams.

  • Figma experience is a plus

  • Prior experience leading a team – including decision-making on product content.
