Purpose of the role
To lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.
Accountabilities
- Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
- Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
- Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
- Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
- Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

Embark on a transformative journey as Lead Engineer – Vice President, where you'll spearhead the evolution of our Corporate Data Services function. As a member of the Event Streaming and Operational Stores Engineering team, you will lead the build-out of technology solutions to meet business requirements, in line with our group architecture design standards and principles. You will work directly with the engineering director to design and deliver a group-wide strategic implementation of a scalable Event Streaming strategy using best-of-breed technologies. Additionally, you will assist in the development of systems strategy and planning. You will focus on creating a self-service environment with high levels of automation, making it easy to integrate into application build and release pipelines. This includes working with virtualization and container platforms and integrating middleware software to provide a highly usable ecosystem. You will be part of a team of engineers with accountability and responsibility for the engineering (strategy, architecture, design, build, documentation, and testing) of the software components. You will work closely with your colleagues in the wider cloud and middleware organization to bring their products to life as part of a modern developer-focused experience. Additionally, your role requires effective stakeholder management, leadership, and decision-making to support business strategy and risk management.
To be successful as a Lead Engineer – Vice President, you should have experience with:

Provide technical leadership to resolve complex issues.

Understand enterprise design principles for developing secure, fault-tolerant, and scalable systems.

Possess knowledge of Agile development methodologies, Cloud concepts, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.

Extensive experience in software development using Java, Python, or other programming languages.

Build Event Streaming applications utilizing Kafka, Kstreams, and Flink.

Implement security and authentication protocols such as OAuth2 and JWT.

Utilize PaaS products, including container management solutions (Red Hat OpenShift, VMware, AWS, Azure).

Experience with IaaS and PaaS products, encompassing virtualisation, containerisation, and orchestration.

Deliver automation solutions and Infrastructure as Code implementations.

Demonstrate a strong work ethic: team player, innovative, passionate, and disciplined.

Possess a robust understanding of data modelling techniques, including star schemas, normalized/denormalized models, and data warehousing solutions like MongoDB, Couchbase, Snowflake, or Redshift.

Knowledgeable in Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) to automate data infrastructure deployments ensuring repeatability and security.

Skilled in workflow orchestration using tools like Apache Airflow or AWS Step Functions to manage data processes, automate tasks, and ensure reliability.

Proficient in Big Data Technologies and tools such as Apache Spark, Kafka, and cloud-based data lake architecture (AWS, S3, Databricks/SageMaker Feature Store).
Some highly valued skills include:

Coding experience in Python, Java, GoLang, Rust etc.

Working knowledge of testing methodologies like TDD, BDD etc and testing automation.

Working knowledge of release and change management process (ITIL).

Working knowledge of Configuration management tools such as Ansible/Chef/Terraform.
