Senior Financial Analyst, Fixed Assets

Overview
The Senior Financial Analyst of Fixed Assets is part of a team that performs accounting, controls, and reporting over fixed and intangible assets for North America.
Role Summary
The individual in this role is part of the team that performs accounting processes, including asset additions, retirements, and the depreciation schedule for North America, Bermuda and Singapore and ensures the adherence in accordance with the Fixed Assets Standard and Corporate Real Estate guideline. As a Fixed Assets subject matter expert, the incumbent will participate in ad-hoc transactions/projects, system upgrades, including various M&A activities, capital events, etc. across North America operation to provide accounting and capitalization guidance in support of these events. The incumbent will work closely with the procurement, AP, and tax teams to help support the business in accordance with the Buying at Sun Life standard and ensure the maintenance of accurate asset values.
Main Accountabilities
- Ensures adherence to guidelines for acquisition, maintenance, retention and disposition of fixed assets, intangible assets, and associated records.
- Partners with accounts payable, procurement, tax, and the corporate global accounting team to ensure seamless execution of asset accounting and procurement strategies.
- Completes reporting that includes intangible and fixed assets roll forward, STATS recs, NAIC, Depreciation schedules, etc.
- Serve as a key Fixed Assets contact for internal/external auditors.
- Completes the monthly close process for Canadian and US fixed assets.
- Prepares SAP journal entries as required for the fixed assets processes.
- Reconciles Fixed Asset balance sheet control accounts.
- Downloads and reviews daily error reports, correcting or escalating errors as appropriate.
- Assist with the implementation of the new technologies.
- Support the testing, conversion and implementation of the General Ledger projects as required.
Competencies
- Professional accounting designation is preferred (such as CA, CA-Inter, CPA, MBA Finance or equivalent)
- 5+ years of relevant work experience, experience with fixed asset and intangible asset reporting is considered a benefit.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts including experience with IFRS.
- Knowledge of financial reporting and internal controls.
- SAP accounting experience required. Experience with reporting tools such as Analysis for Office, Fiori, SAP FA or SAP Ariba is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical thinking and organizational skills
- Skilled in investigation and resolution
- Strong attention to detail
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage work priorities ensuring timely responses to business; ability to manage deliverables to meet established deadlines
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively with other business units.
