Your new role

An opportunity for an experienced broadcast journalist, with excellent news judgement and a passion for breaking stories, to join LBC on a full-time basis in the role of LBC North East Reporter. 

Reporting to your Regional News Editor, you’ll deliver outstanding coverage of the biggest stories across your region, and report for Global’s other brands including Classic FM, Capital, Heart and Smooth. 

You’ll know your region inside out, have a good eye for a local story that could make a national headline and have the right contacts to speak to, so that you can deliver it on-air. 

You’ll be brimming with ideas and creative ways to treat them, have a great voice, excellent writing skills and a detailed understanding of Ofcom regulations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • As a reporter you will understand the issues affecting your region and the stories that matter to our listeners.

  • You’ll make sure your stories are heard on our national news talk brand, LBC, and on our rolling news station, LBC News.

  • You’ll have the gravitas to deliver reports in vision, when required. 

  • You’ll understand the importance of the full range of social and multi-media tools available in delivering a successful multi-platform news experience for our audiences.

  • You’ll have sound legal judgement and be proficient in Ofcom’s broadcast regulations and guidelines.

  • You’ll have a great range of contacts and understand the importance of forging new relationships across the region.

  • You’ll have the flexibility to cover the big stories whenever and wherever they happen.

Own It: You’ll be on-air each day, covering the biggest stories in your region, and given the chance to pitch and develop your own exclusives for LBC and LBC News. Keep it Simple: You’ll work alongside your Regional News Editor and wider team to identify and create great stories to make bulletins stand out, while delivering more in-depth coverage on LBC, LBC News and on digital.

Better Together: You’ll be supported by a network of hardworking producers, and work with some of the most talented broadcasters in the business.

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Pitched and delivered exclusive stories from your region.

  • Helped LBC be first to a story in your patch, break the news in a confident and authoritative way.

  • Positioned yourself as an expert on your region within Global and provided new contributors on key issues.

  • Developed a full understanding of LBC and other brands across Global.

  • Thrived in a supportive, passionate team.

What You’ll Need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

  • Project Management Skills: You will be confident working on your own and under the guidance of your Senior colleagues to provide on-target, agenda-setting news content.

  • Curiosity & Creativity: You will be passionate about news, and eager to investigate and create your own outstanding and exclusive stories.

  • Broadcasting & Communication Skills: You will have a commanding on-air presence and be confident in your ability to report live into LBC and LBC News.

  • Flexibility & Positivity: You will enjoy working flexible hours and always strive to complete a task to a high standard.

  • Regional Expertise: A knowledge and understanding of the key issues affecting the lives of people in your region.

  • A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.

  • This is a field-base role, you'll be comfortable working remotely, with support from teams in Glasgow, Manchester and London.
