The role!
Position: Junior Staff Accountant
Location: Wakefield, MA
Pay rate: $23-25 per hour based on experience
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Summary & Responsibilities
The Junior Staff Accountant plays a critical role within Communitas’ Accounting Department focusing on billing and accounts receivable functions. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting and auditing of reimbursable expenditures and contributing to the overall financial integrity of the agency.

  • Enter monthly DDS contract billing in Virtual Gateway and run various activity reports to reconcile revenue and payments to Great Plains
  • Track revenue, payments, and other significant contract activity and information in DDS Contract Billing Register
  • Review monthly MassHealth billing for DayHab Programs before submission to third party biller.
  • Monitor MassHealth billing and payments for DayHab Program sites and AFC program.
  • Track MassHealth revenue, activity, and statistics in MassHealth summary file.
  • Assist in MassHealth DayHab revalidation process.
  • Enter bi-monthly billing in Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MART) billing system.
  • Prepare monthly Family Support Flex Funding Stipend detail invoice file. Work with Family Support staff to review each individual’s expense to budget.
  • Record Representative Payee Social Security payments. Maintain report for Residual check distribution and bank transfer.
  • Record monthly Food Stamps (SNAP) benefits.
  • Process monthly Housing Authority payments, Residence Fees, and enclave billing and monitor collections
  • Analyze accounts receivable aging and provide follow-up on outstanding amounts.
  • Research and resolve any issues or variances on a timely basis.
  • Support month end and year end close process.
  • Assist in annual budget development process relative to billing register and payment updates
  • Assist with annual external audits to ensure compliance. Prepare audit schedules as needed.
  • Support the audit fieldwork including work paper preparation, audit task scheduling, and communication with internal and external resources to obtain requested billing related audit information.
  • Maintain sam.gov and MassHealth portal accounts.
  • Cross train with accounts payable and other Business Office staff

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required (BA or Professional Certificate in Accounting preferred)
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience with billing
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and automated accounting system required
  • A passion and dedication to supporting our people is a must
  • Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Must pass company background and reference checks
