About the Role

As the IT Team Manager / System Administrator at RainFocus, you will lead our IT team while maintaining hands-on technical expertise. This role combines leadership responsibilities for our IT operations with active system administration duties. You'll guide the team's strategic direction while ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our IT infrastructure. This position offers the unique opportunity to both shape our IT organization and maintain deep technical involvement.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of IT professionals, including system administrators and helpdesk staff
  • Create and execute IT strategic plans aligned with business objectives
  • Set and track team performance metrics and KPIs
  • Manage, monitor, and maintain the company's servers, systems, and network infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and optimal performance 
  • Implement and maintain security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption mechanisms to safeguard sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access 
  • Install, configure, and maintain software applications and updates across various platforms, including operating systems and productivity tools 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution 
  • Provide technical support to end-users and Helpdesk Administrators, addressing their IT-related concerns, and guiding them on best practices 
  • Monitor system performance and resource utilization, identifying and addressing bottlenecks, and proposing solutions for improvement 
  • Collaborate with IT team members and other departments within RainFocus to develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and documentation for system configurations, security, and operational processes 

Required Skills/Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience in Managing an IT team 
  • Strong project and budget management abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience) 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • 5+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years in system administration
  • Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role, with a deep understanding of IT systems, networks, and protocols 
  • Proficiency in administering Windows and Mac operating systems 
  • Working knowledge Google Workspace and JAMF
  • Strong grasp of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN 
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation and task scripting 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams 
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on documentation and process improvement 

Helpful Experience/Skills & Attributes

  • IT management or leadership training
  • Professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar 
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) 
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) 
  • Familiarity with ITIL principles and IT service management frameworks 
  • Cybersecurity awareness and experience implementing security best practices
