About the Department
Our Boston Research & Development hub, anchored in the greater Boston area, brings together the best minds in life science innovation. The teams located in facilities in Lexington, Watertown and Cambridge reflect the full R&D continuum, from early research through late-stage clinical development. Here, we are building for the future, creating a distinct R&D community based on collaboration, partnerships, and cutting-edge research across multiple modalities and therapeutic areas. We recognize that improving human health starts here and that patients rely on us. Our greater Boston R&D hub merges biotech speed and agility with large pharmaceutical company quality, resources, and stability, uniting the best of both worlds to develop new medicines for patients.
The team is comprised of collaborative, diverse and passionate people who have a true sense of pride in their work and are committed to helping others grow and develop their careers. You'll also have a platform to engage with key stakeholders on a global scale throughout the entire pipeline process. The Program
At Novo Nordisk, interns will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced industry professionals and gain valuable, hands-on, full-time work experience. For ten working weeks, in-terns will be immersed in the environment of a global pharmaceutical company and contribute to the line of business by providing sustainable and meaningful project work. Our internship pro-gram also includes instructor led trainings, a leadership engagement series, and a guided mentorship program to offer professional and personal development.
Program Start: June 2nd, 2025
Program End: August 15th, 2025
Scope of Position
There is an increasing interest in the Target Discovery US department to explore previously un-annotated "dark genome" targets, which are now accessible through advances in sequencing technology. Specific species we are initially focusing on are long non-coding RNAs, transcript splice variants, and small open reading frames micropeptides (smORFs). In this project, the intern will be responsible to analyze in-house long-read RNA-seq data from relevant tissues such as adi-pocytes, hindbrain, and peripheral ganglia to support these efforts. As it is important to consider the suitability of the novel species as drugs, the intern will support the development of AI-based tools capable of characterizing novel biomolecules. Additionally, we will utilize other data types that the intern can explore, such as proteomics and ribo-seq for validation. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in computational biology and to learn more about how large-scale data is generated, while learning about target discovery.
