Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an International Trade Specialist - Boca Raton, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

International Trade Specialist supports small businesses looking to expand their operations into international markets. This position will focus on providing expert guidance and technical assistance to local businesses interested in exporting their products or services globally. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of international trade regulations, export logistics, market research, and the tools necessary to help small businesses succeed in the global marketplace.

Client Consulting & Advisory

  • Provide one-on-one consulting to small business looking to explore and expand into international markets, offering expert advice on market entry strategies, export logistics, international sales, and regulatory compliance.

  • Assist businesses in navigating export documentation, trade regulations, compliance requirements (including customs, tariffs, and duties), and facilitate their understanding of export control laws.

  • Conduct and deliver market research on international trade opportunities, including identifying target markets, understanding trends, and providing actionable insights to businesses.

  • Provide other areas of consulting that support businesses on the path to access in international trade.

Relationship Development & Outreach

  • Collaborate with federal, state, and local government agencies, export intermediaries, and other stakeholders to provide comprehensive support for small businesses seeking to engage in international trade.

  • Advise on trade missions, trade shows, and international networking opportunities to help local businesses build international connections and grow their global reach.

Workshops & Training

  • Lead workshops and webinars on international trade topics to educate small businesses about best practices, export strategies, and global market trends.

Program Support & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed notes taken during each consulting engagement and enter directly into the SBDC CRM platform (Salesforce) utilizing the following template:

    • NEXT STEPS REQUIRED BY CONSULTANT AND/OR CLIENT

  • Track and report in Salesforce capital access impact secured by clients as a result of consulting efforts

  • Support SBDC grant reporting requirements by documenting client successes and outcomes.

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Provide 1,140 hours of confidential, one-on-one consulting services to SBDC small business clients annually

    • Capital access for export activity of $3,000,000 (loans, equity, grants, capital investment) – with valid attribution forms

    • Unique clients: 113 (provided by SBDC or strategic partners)

  • Client scheduling will be conducted by the consultant after receiving client contact information from the SBDC.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the specialized area of international business, trade, economics, or a related field and 3 years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the specialized area of international business, trade, economics, or a related field; and 5 years of experience required.
Strong understanding of international trade policies, export documentation, customs regulations, global supply chain management, and international finance required.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to explain complex trade concepts in an accessible way required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) or similar international trade certification.
Experience in business consulting or entrepreneurship support.
Excellent presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

$1,245.00 weekly

This position is eligible for flex scheduling under the discretion of the supervisor.
Temporary positions are not established positions and are paid from OPS funds. They provide full-time or part-time employment in an exempt or non-exempt employment situation based on job duties and salary in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Temporary positions do not have layoff rights and may be terminated without prior notice.
