The primary purpose of this position is to develop skills to review, analyze, accept and decline risks to ensure profitability for Markel. Communicate with underwriting management, colleagues, data analysts, and current and proposed producers. Become familiar with and execute upon underwriting guidelines, policies and procedures. You will apply your educational insights and learning in a real-world business setting. Additionally, as an Intern you will be exposed to data analytics and digital technologies that focus on the future of underwriting in the reinsurance industry.

Program Summary

Markel is seeking college sophomores and juniors with the right combination of business, mathematic, analytic and communication skills for the summer of 2025. In this internship, you will be working directly with our team and have hands-on experience within data analytics, reporting and operational functions. This internship will also include special projects that will be assigned during your summer internship that you will be expected to complete by specific deadlines.

Program Design

• Paid internship for full-time work from June through August
• Opportunity to execute actual work deliverables and contribute toward team goals

Desired qualifications

• Working towards a university degree
• Strong academic performance and leadership skills.
• Some background and experience with critical problem solving, data analytics, judgmental decisioning, and technology preferred.
• Excellent academic credentials (GPA 3.0 or above)
