The HSEQS (Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, Quality, Sustainability, and Social) Business Partner supports the development, implementation, and management of robust HSEQS management systems across major infrastructure projects in North America. Based in Vancouver, BC, the role addresses operational challenges, enhances compliance, and fosters accountability within project teams.
Reporting to the HSEQS Director, this position involves collaboration with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment with Acciona’s high standards of HSEQS excellence. The HSEQS Business Partner manages tasks such as incident investigations, inspections, audits, and partner reviews, contributing to a proactive and sustainable HSEQS culture.

Job Description

Operational Support:

  • Conduct incident investigations and reviews of high-potential near-miss incidents, ensuring timely resolution and preventive actions.
  • Perform partner reviews and audits to ensure compliance with Acciona’s HSEQS standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and hands-on support to project teams to improve compliance, reduce burnout, and foster accountability.
  • Act as a key liaison between project teams and the corporate HSEQS department, addressing operational challenges and providing troubleshooting support.

System Development & Implementation:

  • Collaborate on integrating HSEQS systems into project-level operations, ensuring alignment with ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001 certifications, and COR – Certificate of Recognitions.
  • Assist in developing structured, risk-based HSEQS processes that enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Prepare and/or deliver training and mentorship to project teams on HSEQS principles, processes, and tools.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents, inspections, audits, and compliance metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster transparent communication between project teams, partners, and the HSEQS department to ensure alignment with corporate goals.

Special Conditions

  • Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel extensively to projects and other offices within North America and occasionally elsewhere as needed.
  • Flexibility: Be reasonably available for emergencies and demonstrate adaptability in working hours to address project needs.
  • Dynamic Environment: Work in a fast-paced setting that requires proactive problem-solving and confident decision-making under pressure.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in HSEQS roles, with at least 2 years on major infrastructure projects. Demonstrated expertise in managing occupational health, safety, environment, quality, and sustainability and social systems.
  • Education: Diploma in engineering or occupational health and safety is required (bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Certifications:
    • ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 Internal Auditor Training is required. Lead auditor training in these standards is desired.
    • ISO 17025 Internal Auditor certification is preferred.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth understanding of HSEQS standards and regulations, with experience integrating these into complex project environments.
    • Skilled in digital HSEQS tools/software such as iTwoCX, Procore, Aconex, and SiteDocs.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other digital tools related to engineering field.
    • Experience preparing technical and management reports.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, adaptability, and leadership abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

The expected salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000 per year. The base pay may vary based on the candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
