The In-house legal team at Gore Mutual is expanding. We are looking for exceptional talent to provide legal advice and insight to the claims organization. In-House Counsel will be responsible for driving casualty and/or accident benefit files to completion with claims adjusters and the in-house team. Joining our team will provide you with a unique opportunity where you will be part of an expanding in-house team. What will you do?
• Provide legal advice and develop strategies responsible for driving Casualty and Accident Benefit files to timely resolution working with Claims Adjusters, clients and Team Leader/Director, Legal.
• Work towards timely resolution of claims from initial assignment, completion of examinations for discovery, research, prepare for and attend private mediations, prepare for and attend pre-trials, conduct trial and arbitrations as well as settlement.
• Ensure legal compliance by following federal, provincial and local laws/by-laws and regulations as well as internal control requirements.
• Provide proactive insight and legal guidance by identifying opportunities for technical excellence.
• Foster positive working relationship with support staff.
• Understand our purpose and values exploring opportunities for impact.
What will you need to succeed?
• J.D. or LL.B. and called to the bar in Ontario.
• Minimum of two years’ litigation experience.
• Experience collaborating with claims team(s), conducting and reporting on examinations for discovery, drafting mediation memoranda, pre-trial briefs, facta, motion records and reports.
• Experience attending contested motions, mediations and pre-trials. Trial experience is an asset.
Hybrid Model: This role is a hybrid role with both in office and remote work days. You will have access to our offices in Cambridge, Toronto and Vancouver.
