About the role:

Betr is looking for a Head of Legal to lead all legal efforts for the company including our regulatory and legal processes & operations. This executive will oversee all legal matters, including gaming compliance, licensing, corporate governance, risk management, government relations, and commercial transactions while providing guidance on how to best move the business forward with a regulatory lens. About you:

• Lead all legal & regulatory functions across gaming, media, and corporate operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international laws, while providing legal guidance to business units on licensed and regulated product offerings.
• Develop and manage compliance programs related to gaming regulations, responsible gaming, data privacy, consumer protection, and financial crime (AML/KYC).
• Oversee all commercial contracts, partnerships, vendor agreements, and intellectual property matters to protect the company’s interests.
• Establish and maintain internal policies, governance frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Manage and oversee litigation, disputes, and external counsel engagements.
• Lead the compliance team on interpreting regulatory and licensing guidelines
• Lead licensing and permit applications across multiple jurisdictions in collaboration with regulators and compliance teams.
• Advocate for Betr’s interests in policy discussions, industry groups, and regulatory hearings.
• Partner with executive leadership on business strategy, M&A opportunities, and risk assessment.
• Lead exploration and due diligence on new prospective gaming verticals
• Advise on employment law, corporate structuring, and expansion strategies as the company grows across the U.S. and international markets.
• Oversee intellectual property strategy, including trademarks, copyrights, and content licensing.

Requirements:

• At least 8+ years at a prominent law firm, in house legal department within the sports industry, or equivalent experience.
• J.D. degree and bar admission in the State of Florida (nice to have)
• Superior record of academic achievement and leadership initiative required 
• High performing self starter with strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, team-oriented, and excellent organizational skills 
• Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality
• Strong written, analytical, & oral communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with senior leaders, external partners and internal team members 
• Detailed and results-oriented with an ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced, and constantly evolving environment 
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including solid Excel skills
• Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
