The Head of Investment Accounting Advisory will, as part of working within an Agile organization, be responsible for creating the investments-related accounting policies of Resolution Life US (RLUS) to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP). Close interaction with Resolution Life Group is required to help influence and advocate for RLUS positions. The Head of Investment Accounting Advisory will work closely with the RLUS investment management team and external third-party asset managers to assess the accounting and capital implications of potential new investments and advise the investment managers on structuring transactions to achieve the desired GAAP, SAP and capital outcomes. The Head of Investment Accounting Advisory will also assist with CECL implementation, and the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures; monitor, assess and communicate the effects of proposed accounting standard changes; and spearhead the implementation of new accounting standards and development of relevant accounting policies.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Proactively research accounting guidance to ensure the Company’s compliance with GAAP and SAP and to ensure that all new accounting standards are accurately adopted
- Assist in the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures as needed based on new transactions, changes in standards and enhancing current documentation related to investments
- Develop and maintain effective and efficient relationships with internal and external customers as well as business partners/industry groups and utilize those relationships to influence industry practices and standard-setting bodies for the benefit of the industry and RLUS
- Provide proactive guidance on accounting implications of new transactions with a commercial mindset and work with business line/functional leaders on implementation of changes to accounting policies and procedures
- Research and analyze proposed and/or completed investments transactions and author accounting policy memorandums documenting those transactions
- Prepare and deliver training programs and other communications to educate the finance department and others on accounting changes including complex investments transactions
- Maintain current knowledge of topics arising from the FASB, SEC, NAIC, AICPA and all other standard-setting bodies
- Work collaboratively with the Company’s independent audit firm on accounting policy matters/interpretations and transaction memos documenting accounting conclusions
- Actively participate in and advocate for RLUS’s interests within industry forums
- Support an environment of continuous improvement
Qualifications
Beyond experience, the right candidate will demonstrate the following leadership competencies and personal characteristics as the Head of Investment Accounting Advisory at Resolution Life US
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
- 6-10+ years of experience with 4+ years of investments and/or insurance industry experience required
- Expertise in US GAAP and SAP
- Strong research, verbal and written communication skills are essential to effectively and clearly communicate technical issues in a pragmatic way to others including senior leadership
- Confidence, credibility and character to liaise across corporate functions; ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues both within RLUS and Group and throughout the industry
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop, coach and train others in an organizational setting
- Sense of urgency and high degree of flexibility - ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines, making adjustments accordingly and execute tasks in support of corporate goals

Location: NYC (generally 2-3 days/week in the office, may be more)

These estimates consider a wide range of factors in making base salary decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
In addition to salary, Resolution Life US offers a comprehensive benefits package, including our health & wellness program, incentive and recognition programs, and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The range for the role may differ based on the location.
