CLSA is seeking an investment strategist will multi-asset experience to spear head our engagement with hedge fund clients. The role is to bring the best of the CITIC-CLSA platforms to bear in money making idea generation for investors. The specific mandate is to focus primarily on shorter-term investment horizons, typically inside a three-month holding period. The idea generation will be asset and instrument agnostic, though must fit with our organisational licensing and execution scope. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years industry experience, preferably across the buy and sell-side. The candidate must be able to work through the entire life cycle of profitable ideas generation and tracking to embed continuous improvement. 

The role will involve interacting with all analysts and strategist within the group to isolate the highest probability set ups that our proprietary offering can identify. The candidate will know how to concisely and compellingly communicate these ideas to clients to enable their conviction and drive execution take-up. This is not an equities specialist role. Candidate with a proven capacity to express an idea across capital structures, instruments and assets classes will have a strong advantage. 

The role will have access to a full-time assistant. Coding skills and comfort with apply artificial intelligence techniques is also a strong advantage. The most important characteristic to thrive in this role will be creativity, a proven track record of entrepreneurialism and that ability to demonstrate learning and adaptation from past experience. The successful candidate will be a systems thinker with a structured approach and feedback loops embedded in the internal process. This role will have direct access to senior management across departments and will have scope to request and potentially direct major product changes to enhance our relevance, competitiveness and delivered results with client.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

  • Identification of specific investment ideas, primarily focused inside a 3-month horizon, where CLSA has an analytical edge and the ability to help clients execute 

  • Development of a specific repeatable framework that formally draws on Citics and CLSA IP to generate ideas that can draw specific links between the content and our analytical edge while using repeated signal techniques to ensure it is scalable, quantifiable and measurably profitable for clients, net of all related costs 

  • Collaboration with research colleagues to understand their products and processes and accelerate the extraction of the most profitable insights within our network

  • Development of tailored hedge fund research products to communicate the highest value ideas in written documents, live presentation and audio and video podcasts

  • Hiring and training of a support resource to systemise all processes and maximise automation of repeated elements of the framework

  • A strong familiarity with the evolving ecosystem of key industry data sources and the optimal methods for retrieving and analysing information from these databases, external data sources (e.g. Bloomberg, Factset, CEIC, WIND, etc), and industry and company sources for the stocks under coverage within a given sector 

  • Travel to relevant locations to market ideas to investors and or conduct independent analysis

  • Secure all relevant licenses related to the scope of the product developed 

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or above, preferably in business related or quantitative discipline

  • 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience

  • Experience in the industry is essential, combined buy and sell side experience preferred

  • Office location must be within CLSA existing global office footprint, Hong Kong is preferred for its direct access to group management to speed decision making

  • Understanding of financial modelling and strong Excel skills a must, coding capabilities to scale analysis and accelerate support resource training is preferred

  • A high sense of commercial awareness is essential. The role will grow relevance through client results delivered, a client P&L mindset is the key.

  • The ideal candidate will be a fast learner and able to work under pressure, this can be demonstrated through career pivots or new skill acquisition demonstrated in past roles

  • Excellent interpersonal sensitivity.  Excellent communication and management skills to both internal and external clients

  • Fluent in English, additional languages are a plus
