Purpose of the Position:

The Group Project Manager is an internal facing position. This position supervises a group of Project Managers. This individual is also responsible to plan, monitor, and coordinate the technical execution portion of a development project. This position coordinates the product development and engineering changes of new and sold business for a new complex technology by both leading cross functional teams and mentoring other Project Managers.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Execute software development milestones and related processes by leading a small team of software project engineers to coordinate, communicate issues and complete tasks for software functional groups and customers
  • Creates the engineering plan and leads the project execution (work breakdown structure, Gantt chart, durations, etc.).
  • Works with the various engineering disciplines to establish a technical/detail level scope document, including managing any recovery plans
  • Captures and leads the resolution of technical issues and risks.
  • Coordinates regular technical project launch meetings with the cross functional engineering teams and documents status with detailed notes.
  • Holds engineering problem solving meetings as necessary
  • Interfaces with the customer’s technical team as established and directed by the Program Manager
  • Works with the team to establish the DVP&R 
  • Coordinates the engineering release levels for pre-production builds
  • Coordinates all ME/HW/SW pre-production builds with Launch Engineer
  • Tracks Bill of Materials costs and reports changes to the Program Manager and Commercial Management
  • Ensures product meets customer requirements and industry specifications.
  • Manages engineering scope changes
  • Supports pre-sales activities, strategy, and product definition coordinating with the product teams as necessary
  • Supports the development and execution of customer, technology, or regional product strategies
  • Works with internal engineering groups to plan resource needs in support of new and future programs
  • Responsible for monitoring, approving and auditing the project team’s milestone and project deliverables.
  • Accountable for leading, coaching and developing the direct reporting Project Managers
  • Functions across the Project Management organization to assure consistency, and drive cross-company best practices and continuous improvement

How You'll Do It:

  • Complying with all Company policies and procedures, safety regulations, company safety policies and safely perform all duties, including but not limited to, promoting a safe workplace. 
  • Maintaining high level of honesty, integrity and confidentiality with respect to company matters. 

Educational and Professional Experience:

  • BS/BA degree required. Advanced technical or business degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 9-12 years of product development and/or manufacturing experience in automotive manufacturing or product development preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of applying project/program management fundamentals in an automotive product development environment preferred.
  • Mastery of automotive standards and requirements.

Working Relationships:

  • This position reports to the Senior Group Project Manager or Director of Project Management.
  • Significant interaction with the following internal departments: Purchasing, Production, Quality, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineer, Mechanical Engineering and senior leadership.
