Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!
E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.
We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.
As a GNC Robotics Engineer, you will focus on the integration and testing of sensors and actuators on our satellite platform and mission-critical flight software. This is a hands-on position, and you will engage with E-Space GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Controls), platform, avionics, and software engineers to procure, design, validate, test, and operate GNC hardware that meets required behavior and performance on board our satellites. This position will report to the GNC Lead and is an onsite position based in Saratoga, CA.
What you'll be doing:
- Develop and maintain testbeds for characterizing performance of various sensors and fusion algorithms
- Interface with flight software and avionics teams to build test jigs for qualifying GNC components on the flight computer board, including working with sensor/actuator drivers, firmware, and communication protocols
- Development of sensor models and fusion algorithms and testing them on the hardware
- Design and implementation of software tools for ground and in-orbit calibration
- Processing, visualization, and evaluation of orbit data to assess sensor and actuator behavior and performance
- Cross-functional interaction with other subsystem engineers, providing expertise as needed
- Participation, presentation, and documentation for engineering reviews
What you bring to this role:
- BS +4 years / MS +2 year in Electronics, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent field of study
- Hands-on professional experience with a robotic vehicle
- Experience building hardware using Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Pixhawk or micro-controllers
- Experience with sensors (IMUs, magnetometers, GPS/GNSS receivers, Earth sensors, Sun sensors, star trackers, etc.)
- Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C and CAN communication protocols
- Proficient in Matlab, Python, C/C++
- Familiarity with CAD and 3d printing
- Highly proactive team player with excellent technical communication and presentation skills
Bonus points for the following:
- Experience building space/aerial/ground robots
- Experience with spacecraft GNC hardware/software, including throughout the design and testing processes
- Experience implementing Kalman filters and sensor fault detection
- Familiarity with PCB Schematics for aerospace or robotics applications
- Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence
This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and used—so we’re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in-orbit activities. If that’s your experience – then we’ll be immediately wow-ed.
E-Space is not currently able to provide employment sponsorship for candidates who do not hold work authorization for the location of this role.
