The Opportunity
As the Global Head of Statistical and Analytical Programming, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight to drive statistical programming excellence across Roche. You will report to the Global Head, PD Data Sciences & Analytics (PD-DSA), and you will be responsible for shaping the Statistical and Analytical Programming strategy in support of building innovative capabilities to advance insight generation and analytical data science in partnership with complementary PD and PD Data Sciences & Analytics (PD-DSA) global leaders (e.g., innovation functions, like Data and Digital Endpoints & Patient Centered Solutions ). The Statistical and Analytical Programming function will service cross-functional and cross-therapeutic areas while ensuring high quality and deep expertise. You will work closely with other senior leaders on common issues that impact statistical programming across the organization.
You will leverage the strengths of a diverse global team and create an inspiring environment where you and your team feel empowered, take ownership of work, knowledge, and resources, and strive for continuous improvement. You will establish and foster key internal and external relationships, purposefully collaborating to be at the forefront of the industry. You may also contribute to, develop, and lead functional, cross-functional, enterprise-wide, or external initiatives that shape technical, business, and healthcare environments.
You will partner with leaders within and outside of PD-DSA to continuously innovate on our insight generation capabilities by evaluating and integrating cutting edge analytics approaches and technology and applying advanced analytics, automation and simplification to accelerate clinical drug development and enable Roche R&D decision support.
You will lead a global high-performing organization of approximately 200-250 statistical programming professionals across multiple Roche sites. Your direct reports will be a team of directors and above. Sitting on the PD-DSA leadership team, you will collaborate with senior leaders in PD-DSA and beyond to influence and contribute to the overall strategy and success of early and late stage development programs at Roche.

Leadership and Strategy

Provide strategic leadership and oversight to a team of approximately 200-250 Roche employees, external partners, and their teams, ensuring a consistent and high-quality approach to Statistical and Analytical Programming and methodologies across all therapeutic areas

Develop and implement a global Statistical Programming strategy to support late-stage clinical trial data analysis, regulatory submissions, and exploratory research, ensuring alignment with PD-DSA and Roche objectives

Provide expert guidance to cross-functional teams to enable effective data and statistical science solutions for delivering insights across therapeutic and disease areas. Equip your team to serve as strategic advisors on programming processes, tools, and standards, influencing decision-making at senior leadership levels

Partner with cross-functional leaders, including the Global Head of Biostatistics, the Global Head of Data Management, Biostatistics Leaders, and broader Roche regulatory teams to align statistical programming capabilities with evolving business needs and scientific priorities. Actively contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives to enhance data integration, programming efficiencies, and analytical methodologies ensuring SOPs adherence as well as high standards

Evaluate challenges as they arise and develop innovative solutions for teams to execute
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships

Act as the primary liaison between the Statistical and Analytical Programming function and key stakeholders across Clinical, Regulatory, and Data Science teams to drive alignment and shape outcomes for shared objectives

Ensure seamless collaboration between Statistical and Analytical Programming and partners within and beyond PD-DSA (e.g., Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Data Science, Regulatory, and more), ensuring alignment and consistency in statistical programming and data science initiatives as well as in support of program-level and enterprise-level goals

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to statistical programming and clinical trial data analysis

Review statistical programming sections of regulatory submissions and interact with regulatory agencies as needed

Represent Roche in cross-functional and external collaborations, regulatory interactions, and industry leadership forums
Technical Statistical Programming Excellence

Act as the single PD-DSA point of contact for statistical programming activities, existing and new analytical methodologies / technologies, processes, systems and compliance, across therapeutic areas, functions and enabling platforms

Implement and maintain robust programming standards, processes, and quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reproducibility of statistical analyses
-
Advise and provide technical expertise to ensure high-quality programming deliverables, including data standardization, statistical analyses, and regulatory submission outputs
-
Educate and drive the use of multi-lingual programming with implementation of flexible programming tools and processes to enhance workflows and data insights, and reduce cycle times

Lead the development and implementation of advanced statistical programming solutions, including the creation of analysis datasets, tables, listings, and figures (TLFs), and electronic submission packages

Ensure compliance with CDISC standards (SDTM, ADaM) and regulatory requirements for data submission

Maintain rigorous standards for programming, ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements and industry best practices

Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing global team of statistical programmers, ensuring their continued professional growth and ability to drive strategic impact

Establish a strong culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning within the statistical programming function

Define clear performance metrics and success criteria for the Statistical and Analytical Programming function, ensuring alignment with organizational goals

Partner with P&C and leadership to attract, retain, and develop top statistical programming talent to support long-term organizational success
Who You Are
-
MSc, PhD, or other advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or similar areas of academic discipline
-
More than 15 years experience (significant experience working at a senior level) in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry with proven experience in TA-enabling strategies and spearheading embedding technological innovations in statistical programming delivery
-
In-depth knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), international and in-country regulations, guidelines and their application, and all other applicable compliance standards related to data and statistical sciences and industry conventions
-
Thorough understanding of the end-to-end drug development lifecycle, particularly on elements involving data and statistical sciences, advanced analytics methods and data visualization tools and techniques. Experience leveraging LLMs to accelerate programming and analytical capabilities

Strong understanding of clinical trial design, data analysis, and regulatory requirements
-
Proficiency in statistical programming languages and tools (e.g., R, Python, SAS)
-
Expertise in applying data science strategy (including statistics) to the analysis of patient data embedding FAIR data principles
-
Experience and understanding the new trends with all relevant data types (e.g., multi-modal data) and analytics
-
Willingness to adopt new technologies and methodologies, in-depth experience in AI and digital advancements

Track record of establishing successful internal and external partnerships with relevant partner organizations (highly desirable experience working with external workforce in Asia Pacific Region) and able to act as an ambassador for Roche

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of of South San Francisco, CA is $278,900 - $517,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
