The successful Global Corporate Affairs Business Partner (Corporate Communications) will join a fast-paced, high impact and growing team at the heart of the business, adept at partnering with colleagues at all levels to make an important contribution to the successful planning, design and execution of our company-wide communications and corporate affairs priorities, and be committed to delivering high quality work and building lasting relationships with stakeholders.
This role will provide dedicated management and delivery of a broad range of projects and activities. While there will be a focus on corporate communications, PR and media relations, the role-holder will be able to advise, support and execute on internal and other stakeholder communication, alongside the wider team. The role will also be part of our issues and incident management structure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Corporate communications and media relations
- Trusted advisor, subject matter expert, business partner and focal point for external corporate communications
- Working closely with in-business marketing teams to shape and develop integrated media engagement plans to support our product pipeline launches, media briefings and thought leadership, including drafting announcements, press release, digital and social content
- Develop integrated leadership communication materials including speaking opportunities, interviews and industry event participation
- Day to day press office management - act as a media spokesperson as required, ensuring consistent and effective messaging
- Build key media relationships and manage our corporate PR agency partner’s work programme and successful delivery on our behalf
- Monitor media coverage and industry trends, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership
- Oversee global corporate social media content including supporting leaders, working closely with Business Units and digital marketeers
- Develop and implement issues and incident communication plans, working closely with internal stakeholders and ensuring rapid and effective responses
- Promote the value of communication through strong reporting and measurement of activity
- Supporting the Head of Global Corporate Affairs on government relations activity as required
- Deputise for Head of Global Corporate Affairs on communications matters as required
- Play active role in the team as we continue to strive to deliver engaging and best in class communications support for the company
Business Partner
- Represent the business and its communications and corporate affairs interests to stakeholders on key projects
- Partner with a range of Business Units and functions to establish and deliver agreed communications activity aligned to priorities, within the corporate framework
- Lead implementation of these plans, working in partnership with colleagues in Global Corporate Affairs and the relevant leadership teams
- Provide strategic advice, constructive challenge, coaching and day-to-day support for those leaders relevant leadership teams
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience of 10+ years in communications roles
- Experience across external and internal communications
- Experience of working within a corporate communications function in a global, matrix organisation as a communication business partner
- Exceptional writing and editorial skills
- A strong team player, who is used to working collaboratively and is willing to challenge in a direct but collegiate style, with tact and diplomacy
- Committed to delivering high quality work, collaboration and support for stakeholders
- Ability to blend strategic thought and tactical delivery, creating and delivering communication plans and creative activities that achieve clear and measurable outcomes
- Ability to analyse, interpret and act on complex and sensitive information, particularly around financial results, M&A, responsible business and corporate projects
- Ability to build effective relationships and strong rapport with a wide range of colleagues, including leaders and media
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, compelling and high-quality content for communications programmes and activities
- Strong communications skills with an ability to flex styles depending on purpose/audience
- Comfortable communicating with a diverse stakeholder base that may have varied and sometimes conflicting expectations
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and at pace
- Proactive and self-directed
- Experience in project management, working with multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to manage agency and project budgets and secure value for any spend
- Advanced Microsoft office package user across range of applications and tools
- Familiar with AI/productivity tools
- Experience in the health and life sciences industry is a bonus, but not essential
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Occasional international and domestic travel may be required, depending on projects/activities.
- The position is a hybrid role with an anticipated office attendance in our London Paddington office of 1-3 days per week at a maximum.
