[German International School New York] Development and Marketing Manager

As of June 2025, GISNY is looking for a Development and Marketing Manager, who will be responsible for establishing and implementing an effective and ethical, multi-faceted development strategy by maximizing the opportunities for giving, educating the community on the needs of the school, and providing excellent donor recognition and stewardship. Further the manager develops the marketing and communication’s strategy, aiming at creating brand awareness, improving student numbers, building community, and fostering networks.
The Development and Marketing Manager works closely with the Board of Trustees and school leadership team and reports to the Business Manager.
JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Development
- Work with the Board of Trustees and school leadership to develop and implement a fundraising strategy that will generate short-term results as well as sustainable long-term growth.
- Develop and foster a culture and understanding of philanthropy in GISNY’s community, serving as ambassador in internal as well as external events.
- Manage portfolio of prospective donors (foundations, corporations, and individuals) in CRM and deepen existing donor relationships through regular cultivation and communication.
- Support board members, school management and other fundraising volunteers to cultivate and solicit charitable gifts.
- Design and oversee fundraising events of various sizes and scales, in partnership with different stakeholders.
- Manage all grant applications and reporting in cooperation with Controller.
Marketing and Communications
- Define and implement strategic marketing and communications plan.
- Promote a culture that values compelling content, engaging design, innovation, effective use of technology, exceptional quality as well as consistent branding.
- Oversee development, design, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic material (e.g., videos), including social media that reaches and influences the school’s target audiences.
- Provide creative direction and strategic leadership for the school's website that includes regular analysis of site traffic and content for continuous improvement and accuracy. Ensure high quality in both languages (German and English).
- Implement social media strategy and ensure accuracy of content; regularly publish appealing stories and updates on relevant and interesting school related topics.
- Develop print, radio and digital advertisements, visual and written campaign components, and special articles for newsletters
- Cultivate and maintain working relationships between the school and the media.
- Coordinate photography of key school activities and events; ensure that new photo albums are uploaded to media gallery in a timely manner
- Collaborate with the Admissions’ Office and the Development Office to develop data-driven strategies to recruit prospective students and engage alumni and families.
- Support organization of information evenings, on campus admissions events, and open houses together with Admissions’ Office and faculty.
- Collaborate with Student Guidance Counselor to position GISNY and the German Abitur with college admission’s offices.
- Partner with colleagues across all departments to ensure clarity and consistency in all communications.
- Participate in school fairs (e.g., Bilingual Fair, Expat Fair)
- Foster relationships among others with Westchester communities and international groups, German American Chamber of Commerce, Citykinder, and other German Schools in the area and the country
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. or B.A. degree (preferably M.S. or M.A.) with emphasis on marketing
- Several years of experience in marketing and/or development, preferably in non-profit organization
- Interest in education and genuine affinity for children and families with international background
- Bilingual in German and English; outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Very strong customer orientation and people skills
- Mission driven with excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
- Multitasking capability, demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills, detail oriented
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Strong team player
- Nonprofit fundraising and capital campaign experience, would be an asset
- Computer software literacy with Office 365
FLSA Status: exempt, full-time
Hours: 40 hours (excluding lunch break)
Regular Hours: to be agreed
Remuneration: $87,000 to 92,000
