Job Description

  • Develop the South Africa business in line with Regional and Area priorities and Access to Medicine framework, ensuring deep and breath access for selected brands, implement Health Systems Strengthening in close alignment with local stakeholders, and serve as a talent engine for the organization.
  • Accelerate patient access to medicines by prioritizing an integrated, sustainable approach to broaden access to our life-changing medicines through partnerships with external stakeholders and working closely with the Access to medicine office (ATMO).
  • work closely with external partners to manage performance of out license business whilst ensuring compliance with Takeda values
  • Be a custodian of Takeda's values and ensure this is demonstrated through decisions based on patient, trust, reputation and business in that order.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:
General Management

  • Provide leadership to the country organization in planning and execution of innovative, high-impact access programs, as well as enhancement of current processes to optimize strategic and access outcomes.
  • Develop long range vision of the needs of the organization, anticipate the impact of business trends, access challenges and prepare plans to accommodate business changes while meeting overall company objectives.
  • Liaise with EAMEA to report country performance and other issues related to company operations.
  • Direct all financial activities including financial reviews and performance data and achieve local operations sustainability within the cluster.
  • Provide leadership for public affairs, patient advocacy and Social Responsibility (SR) activities to develop positive relationships with government and pharmaceutical industry societies.
  • Represent the company externally, e.g. pharma groups, at networking events, conferences and exhibitions to enhance and strengthen the company's profile and optimize all business development opportunities.


Strategy and Planning

  • Formulate long- and mid-term country strategy, with emphasis on access strategy and financial sustainability.
  • Establish aligned objectives, goals, strategies and measures across access/ commercial operations that will be monitored and reviewed throughout the fiscal year.
  • Define strategic direction of the portfolio and pipeline, aligning with regional strategy and corporate goals, and advocating for portfolios in the annual planning process and integrate management inputs to ensure that sustainable short-term and long-term strategies and objectives are agreed upon and in place.


Execution and Implementation

  • Drive overall performance in providing leadership in achieving business/ access sustainability and patient reach in line with overall business strategy of the company.
  • Exhibit thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare economics, business cycles and regulatory environment.
  • Accountable for broadening access and/ or increasing patient reach as appropriate through execution of effective portfolio strategies.
  • Oversee teams in managing overall performance of the treatment portfolio, development of individual competencies, and compliance with company policies and Pharma Code.
  • Continue to build on the AtM strategy via the ATMU in expanding sustainable access to eligible patients to our innovative drugs identified in the AtM strategy,
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration involving alignment, decisions, identification of issues and solutions regarding core business processes and operations.
  • Drive discipline in reviewing performance versus objectives, execution versus plan, and corrective action necessary to achieve desired performance outcomes.


People and Engagement

  • Champion discipline of regular performance feedback and coaching session across all levels.
  • Optimize relevant communication channels to engage teams on performance, external business dynamics, issues and opportunities, and people development matters.
  • Ensure good relations and communications with all stakeholders (internal and external) to achieve business objectives.
  • Drive talent acquisition and retention in line with business strategies and assure strategic workforce planning, including on-boarding, performance management, talent development and enforcing employee discipline in the country organization.


Access to Medicines Unit (AtMU)

  • Manage partnerships in strengthening the health systems, through shaping of public and policy advocacy, maintaining and expanding the innovative access, and building capacity to create sustainable access to patients for our Innovative AtM portfolio.
  • Lead HSS (healthcare system strengthening) in collaborating with senior external stakeholders, including Government, Trade Associations, Patient Associations and Payers.
  • Responsible for ensuring public/ private funding strategies

  • Champion Takeda corporate philosophy and drive corporate values and priorities across the organization.
  • Legal and ethical conduct of compliance, adherence to company guidelines and procedures including industry code of sales and marketing practice
  • Ensure robust E&C mechanisms in place to ensure adherence with Takeda's policy's and values


EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in Medical, Pharmacy or Life Sciences.
  • Minimum of 10 years' work experience in commercial operations with strong market access and policy shaping experience.
  • Proven track record in leading, managing and motivating individuals and teams.
  • Launch experience of innovative pharmaceutical products.
