Job Description: Turning Point USA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced General Counsel to lead the company’s legal department strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing Turning Point USA’s legal department and matters, providing legal strategy, oversight, and guidance to the organization and its executive leadership team on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, corporate governance, business litigation, employment law, board matters, company policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have at least six years of legal experience, a wide range of legal experience (with at least some litigation experience), excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. She/He must be able to prioritize tasks, oversee complex legal matters, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal strategy and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, employment law, corporate governance, business litigation, board matters, and regulatory compliance;
  • Assess company decisions with an eye toward supporting company growth and expansion while mitigating risk;
  • Draft, review, redline, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support business objectives;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance;
  • Participate in and provide legal support for corporate transactions;
  • Provide legal support and guidance for TPUSA’s board of directors on corporate matters;
  • Provide legal support and guidance to all TPUSA departments and executive leaders as needed;
  • Monitor and analyze legal developments that may impact the company and advise the executive leadership team accordingly;
  • Conduct corporate staff trainings on regulatory and nonprofit compliance; and
  • Advise on legal strategy in response to claims and litigation, and work closely with TPUSA’s outside counsel firms on all legal matters requiring specific expertise or increased legal hours and involvement.

Requirements:

  •  Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in a state bar association (ideally Arizona or Indiana, but not required);
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department;
  • Strong knowledge of corporate law, nonprofit law, contract law, and/or regulatory compliance;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and with an executive leadership team;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, oversee complex legal matters, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;
  • Passion for conservative ideas and principles.
