General Accountant I
ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
As a General Accountant I, the job responsibilities are to include accounts payable processing, fixed asset-related functions, and general ledger account reconciliations for the organization. Processes invoices for payment using the accounts payable software application. Assists in research and problem resolution related to accounts payable processing, fixed assets, and account reconciliation issues. Provides feedback to managers and other employees to ensure compliance with applicable general accounting processes. Addresses issues that arise concerning outstanding invoices, including, but not limited to, working with outside suppliers and internal managers to research and resolve discrepancies or errors on invoices or check disbursement vouchers. Assists in the recording, tagging, and maintenance of company assets. Prepares general ledger account reconciliations as assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enters accounts payable invoices and verifies posting accuracy as needed. Ensures invoices have appropriate manager approval. Verifies invoices are charged to the applicable general ledger accounts. Reviews and processes travel expense reports of officials, and records entries for reimbursement.
- Assists with on-site inspections and tagging of assets prior to new branch openings or remodel areas to ensure readiness for occupancy.
- Identifies potential issues pertaining to accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger account reconciliation, and brings them to the attention of supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Associates degree required, along with two years of experience. Equivalent work experience of three to five years relevant to general accounting may be substituted.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Solid technical skills for accounting, reporting, and analysis with a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ability to produce work of high quality and accuracy under tight deadlines; organized self-starter with advanced problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload and to perform in a fast-paced corporate environment; high concentration level with ability to perform complex tasks timely and efficiently.
- Ability to perform effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; excellent research and computation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Organized and thorough with desire for continuous improvement; possesses the experience and judgment to plan and accomplish various complex goals and objectives
- Knowledge of and familiarity with the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Crystal Reports and/or other report writing applications.
- Should have familiarity with basic accounting practices and procedures and the ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish various goals and objectives and meet structured accounting-related deadlines. Must be a detail-oriented individual with the ability to perform a variety of tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- A high concentration level and a high level of accuracy.
