Human Exploration and Spaceflight (HESF) Division in CSG is the company subject matter experts for human spaceflight. HESF supports NASA and its bold human exploration missions from the NASA Headquarters mission directorates to the Moon to Mars office down to every Artemis Program in operation. We also support the International Space Station (ISS), Commercial LEO Development Program, Commercial Crew Program, and Human Health and Performance. HESF support spans the systems engineering and integration lifecycle for programs from architecture and mission design to technology development, requirements and design reviews, and finally to verification, safety, and on orbit operational reviews and concurrences.
For this position, we are looking for a Gateway Ready Avionics Integration Laboratory (GRAIL) Project Manager (Project Engineer/Sr. Project Engineer - Technical Project Management). This position will support the Systems Engineering and Integration Branch of the Avionics System Division in the JSC Engineering Directorate.
Work Model
This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, offering a 100% onsite work model.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Prepare and present decision packages and change request at program forums
  • Support program L2 decision points in support of planning, requirements development, execution, and resource management of GRAIL systems and upgrades.
  • Leading the technical progress on the GRAIL design and provides issues resolution support
  • Monitors GRAIL requirements development progress based on completion of Lab Sync Points (LSP)
  • Provide verification and validation direction to the GRAIL team for technical task completion to meet PM schedule
  • Builds understanding of the Gateway missions and how GRAIL supports that mission for all configurations during design, and stack configuration buildup completion
  • Develops and reviews GRAIL products for major milestones
  • Primary interface with the Gateway Flight Software system manager (SM) to ensure that software configurations are well-documented
  • Conduct independent reviews to ensure GRAIL implements appropriate safety and quality standards in its design and development execution
  • Primary interface with partner and stakeholder counterparts for information exchange and issues resolution as their elements of GW are brought into the GRAIL
  • Works closely with the Chief Integrator to ensure that configuration of GRAIL is correct and documented for each test case
  • Support the planning, test procedure development, test operation, problem resolution, and test completion documentation for each GRAIL test run
  • Support the execution of special studies requested of the Gateway Program
  • Ensure readiness and functionality of the GRAIL and develop resolution plans for areas of maintenance or improvements that are needed


Other tasks include:

  • Supports GRAIL internal and stakeholder technical meetings
  • Defines LSP content and monitors development of same for internal and stakeholder demonstrations
  • Supports critical technical interchange meetings (TIM) as required
  • Advocates for test like you fly (TLYF) per Gateway requirements
  • Works closely with the PM and Chief Integrator to define LSP content to meet PM's schedule
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
  • This position supports the Aerospace Innovation and Velocity strategic goals


What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for the Project Engineer - Technical Project Management

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in electrical engineering, software engineering, or related discipline
  • 6 or more years of experience in flight hardware avionics, communication, telemetry design including software and hardware development
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development of and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner.
  • Experience working across diverse teams, where the team is distributed across multiple NASA and Aerospace Corporation organizations, and many different engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to identify and communicate concerns to leadership in a diplomatic manner
  • Superior analytical, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent tasks and provide direction on competing priorities.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Willing to travel [domestically and internationally] approx. 2 times per year
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Project Engineer - Technical Project Management include:

  • Master's degree from an accredited program in electrical engineering, software engineering, or related discipline
  • 10 or more years of experience in flight hardware avionics, communication, telemetry design including software and hardware development
  • Need to have experience in or an understanding of the design and utilization of software in the loop (SIL) and hardware in the loop (HIL) labs.
