Sr. Economy Designer/Monetization Designer 

At Red Games Co. the Economy Designer is responsible for designing and balancing the in-game economic systems, including virtual currencies, progression pathways, and purchase options, with a primary focus on creating a sustainable monetization strategy that maximizes player engagement and revenue while maintaining a positive player experience across their mobile game.

Key responsibilities:

Game Economy Design

  • Develop and manage complex in-game economies with multiple virtual currencies, resource sinks and sources, and progression systems.
  • Balance the rate at which players acquire and spend resources to ensure a healthy and engaging gameplay loop. 
  • Design reward structures for gameplay actions and achievements.

Monetization Strategy:

  • Identify and implement effective monetization features like in-app purchases (IAPs), subscription models, and special events. 
  • Design pricing strategies for virtual items and packages while considering player psychology and value perception. 
  • Develop targeted offers and promotions to optimize player spending based on their engagement and progress. 

Data Analysis and Iteration:

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) like ARPU, LTV, and retention rates to evaluate the health of the game economy.
  • Analyze player data to identify areas for improvement and optimize the economy based on player behavior. 
  • Conduct A/B testing to test new monetization features and pricing strategies. 

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with game designers, artists, and live operations teams to ensure seamless integration of economic systems into the game. 
  • Communicate design decisions and rationale to stakeholders and provide insights on player behavior and economic trends. 

Required skills

  • Strong understanding of game design principles, especially related to free-to-play monetization strategies 
  • Excellent analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools to interpret player behavior and economic metrics 
  • Experience with game economy modeling and balancing complex systems 
  • Ability to think creatively and design engaging monetization features while maintaining player fairness 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
