Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented Fracture Mechanics Engineer to help us in our mission by contributing to the development, justification and validation of our vehicle. You will be part of the Vehicle Design Team and will report to the Principal Mechanical Engineer and the Vehicle Design Lead. You will work in close collaboration with System, Avionics, Propulsion and AIT teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct fracture mechanics analysis to predict crack growth and failure in aerospace materials and structures.

  • Implement fracture control plans for reentry vehicle components.

  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to assess stress and fracture behavior under various loading conditions.

  • Collaborate with design and materials engineers to select appropriate materials and design features to mitigate fracture risks.

  • Lead failure investigations and root cause analysis for structural failures.

  • Support the development of testing protocols and oversee fracture testing of materials and components.

  • Prepare technical reports and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.

  • Stay current with advancements in fracture mechanics and aerospace materials.


What We Would Love to See from You
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fracture mechanics analysis.

  • Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) software (Nastran is preferable).

  • Strong understanding of material properties and material behavior under stress.

  • Experience with fracture testing.

  • Understanding of Fracture Control requirements for manned mission is a plus
