Flight Modeling and Simulation MS/PhD Summer Internship

Team Overview:

The Systems Autonomy, Analysis, and Modeling (SAAM) Group at STR is seeking a Graduate Intern to develop sensing, technology, and system modeling environments for high-impact defense applications. This position will focus on ground, air, and space sensing and the resource management of these assets in the service of the survivability and capability of US air and space assets (e.g., the F-35 Joint Simulation Environment) using the methods of operational and systems analysis. Intern will work with leading researchers to define the modeling requirements, design, and implement the environment, and validate the predictive or explanatory capabilities.  Join us this summer and help develop meaningful solutions to challenging, real-world problems which enhance our nation’s security.

Job Description:

  • You will adapt, extend, and optimize innovative modeling and simulation algorithms for solving challenging flight simulations.
  • You will collaborate with STR research engineers as well as academic researchers, who are often part of our team, to develop practical and powerful modeling and simulation solutions.
  • You will have the opportunity to evaluate and optimize simulation performance on relevant and practical data sets.

Requirements:

  • We are looking for students majoring in applied physics, computer science, or related areas. Experience with physics-based modeling and/or data analytics is preferred.
  • More general desired skills include Object oriented programming skills in C++, Qt, or MATLAB, source code management (git), and software development tools including continuous build, unit testing frameworks, and static code analysis.

Perks:

  • Competitive pay
  • Housing stipend
  • Flexibility/work-life balance
  • Vibrant community with fun summer activities inside and outside the office
  • Intern seminars and tech talks.
  • Strong track record of interns returning for subsequent summers and future full-time employment.
