Maxar is currently seeking a motivated, experienced Flight Director to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring health, safety, and control of an active satellite during orbit raising and in-orbit testing campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Configure the Control Center for operations, updating its configuration as needed to support the mission.
- Work a variety of shifts scheduled for daytime, evening, and overnight hours, any day of the week, to include weekends.
- Communicate with remote ground station personnel to maintain ground to satellite connectivity.
- Respond to anomalous or contingent satellite function event in a timely and professional manner.
- Utilize orbit determination and analysis data to plan for, connect to, and configure cortexes located at a variety of ground station antennas around the world.
- Engage and clearly communicate with a team of subsystem engineers to ensure healthy satellite configurations.
- Utilize knowledge of aerospace subsystems and radio frequency to analyze telemetry trends, identify potential issues, notify responsible engineers, and/or troubleshoot actual issues.
- Complete timely shift reports, event log entries, and documentation deliverables, such as propellant accounting.
- Assist other members of the Mission Control team with special projects, as directed.
- Command the satellite(s)
- Operate the Emergency Command And Telemetry Subsystem (ECATS)
- Generate Tables or Logs for other members of the Mission Control Team or the Customer
- Restore functionality of Mission Control Center equipment
- Prepare the system to monitor additional telemetry points requested by the Team
- Prepare instructions to perform a new task to be used by other members of the Team
- Create Incident Reports (documenting an unusual event) or Critiques (documenting an abnormal or less then optimal function of the system).
- Develop scripts to automate MCC and payload test functions
- Test scripts to automate MCC and payload test functions to validate function and safety before live implementation
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical or related engineering discipline
- 8 years of experience
- Previous satellite command and control experience
- Previous satellite initialization and test experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Detailed understanding of all satellite subsystems, ground station antenna functionality, and Earth orbits.
- Experience working with remote equipment sites.
- Customer service experience.
- Proficient using MatLab, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
- Skilled in programming.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
• The base pay for this position within California is: $120,000.00 - $200,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.

Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
