JOB SUMMARY
The Firefighter performs a full range of emergency response duties to include fire suppression, hazardous materials response, specialized rescue, manmade and natural disaster response.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responds to aircraft incidents and emergencies, structural alarms, grass or brushfires that may threaten the loss of life or government property, vehicle fires, accidents, petroleum, oils, and lubricant fires or spills limited to hazardous materials operational level response.
- Drive and inspect fire department vehicles and operate firefighting equipment and tools.
- Exercises judgment, and initiative; receives and executes directions from Crew Chief or other senior member.
- Maintain firefighting vehicles and equipment per manufacturer’s recommendation.
- Maintain living quarters and the fire station's overall appearance.
- Respond to notifications of a recall and report to the Emergency Communication Center or other designated location for assignment.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Having at least four years of relevant experience is desired.
- Have IFSAC or ProBoard certification to include Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator ARFF, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply, Hazardous Material Operations, and Telecommunicator I/II.
- Have interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Communicates effectively in writing, on the telephone, and in person.
- Have a valid home-of-record driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS
- Physical requirements may include lifting to 35 lbs., team lifting to 50 lbs., climbing, extended standing, stretching, or bending.
- Ability to sit and concentrate for extended periods but also have the mobility to respond immediately to emergency incidents.
- Willing to be flexible regarding working hours and respond quickly to time sensitive or urgent requirements.
