OVERVIEW
Consumer Reports aims to shape the digital marketplace to benefit consumers, ensuring it operates with integrity and fairness. We empower consumers with the knowledge and tools they need to make choices in an increasingly opaque digital marketplace—creating a world where consumers have real choices and agency online.
As a Fintech Policy Analyst, you’ll report to the Director of Technology Policy and work with teams across our organization to advocate on behalf of consumers who have been affected by economic changes, help strengthen foundational consumer protections, and ensure that financial protections are applied and enforced equally in the digital marketplace.
We’re looking for someone to help us shed light on the rapidly changing marketplace of digital finance — such as new digital payment apps, the use of artificial intelligence in financial services and insurance, and cryptocurrency. This is a hybrid position with travel expected. The ideal candidate will be based in California or the Washington, DC area. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
How You’ll Make an Impact
The Fintech Policy Analyst will research, identify, and help CR respond to how the use of Financial Technology affects financial services, consumers and the marketplace. You will play an important part in helping CR work for effective consumer protections, hold businesses accountable for their practices, and encourage smart innovations that put consumers first. On a daily basis, you may:
- Lead federal policy and regulatory strategy and engagement for Digital Marketplace, Fintech policy
- Develop relationships and participate in regular engagements with key state and federal policymakers to advance Digital Marketplace objectives
- Lead team development of position statements in key advocacy issue areas such as
- Financial Transactions
- AI in Financial Services
- Digital Assets and Cryptocurrency
- Represent CR as a subject matter expert by serving as a spokesperson, testifying before regulatory and legislative bodies, serving as a speaker and panelist at major conferences and events
- Write comments, letters, op-eds, blog posts, and articles in support of our fintech advocacy.
- Develop relationships with representatives of the media to help get CR’s message to the public.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll Be Highly Rated If:
- You have the education. Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in law or public policy preferred.
- You have the advocacy experience. You’ve spent a minimum of 5 years working with Congress, state governments, or the Executive branch; such as legislative experience working in or as an advocate before Congress or any other legislative body.
- You have the interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with individuals, groups, and organizations across the political spectrum to build relationships and influence others without relying on authority or intimidation.
- You have strong analytical, communications, and advocacy skills. You have a demonstrated ability to speak, write, and present information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner that is tailored to a particular audience. You also have strong active listening skills.
- You are a subject matter expert with in-depth knowledge of fintech and its intersection with and integration into banking and consumer finance is required.

FAIR PAY AND A JUST WORKPLACE
At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation informed by location, as well as the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. It is expected that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of the posted salary range.
Salary ranges
- California: $89-$95K annually
- Washington, D.C. metro area: $85-$90K annually
