Summary
The General Accountant performs accounting tasks requiring knowledge of accounting principles and practices, interprets accounting data, analyzes reports, provides support for various levels of management, and recommends actions to be taken. This person builds good internal and external customer relationships, is proactive, takes ownership, and identifies and executes process efficiencies or improvements.

What You'll Do

  • Monthly Closing - calculate allocations, and accruals, prepare and post journal entries, review and post department journals, assist division liaisons with using their financial information
  • Account Reconciliations - ensure the monthly balance sheet account and bank account reconciliations are completed accurately and timely, including research, follow-up, and correction of any outstanding issues
  • Cash Activity - record the disbursement of ACH, wire payments, and manual checks, maintain the monthly bank disbursement analysis, and prepare and post sundry cash receipt entries
  • Oracle Maintenance - set-up and maintenance of employee roles and responsibilities within the Oracle financial system, including T&E reimbursement and purchasing workflow, ensuring proper segregation of duties and internal controls
  • Compliance - prepare and maintain accurate business records for business registrations, unclaimed property, sales & use tax, and other compliance requirements, ensure reports, returns, and payments are filed timely, and work with government agencies to resolve discrepancies
  • Other Revenue Billing - prepare and maintain records including invoices, payments, agings, memo statements, and other documents as required for non-advertising and non-circulation initiatives
  • Other projects as assigned

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including excellent Excel and database skills
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion or other corporate general accounting financial system preferred
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • A history of consistently meeting deadlines, paying attention to detail, and providing accurate work
  • Occasional overtime is required, including possible weekends
