EdOps Finance Team Manager
EdOps’ Finance Team Manager position is an ideal role for accounting or finance professionals interested in using their skills to manage a team of finance professionals and directly serve clients in a leadership role within a mission-driven context. The Finance Team Manager position is designed for individuals with significant experience managing professionals. As the manager of a team of finance staff, the Finance Team Manager provides quality control to ensure work best meets the needs of schools. The manager is also responsible for staff support, developing staff technical and soft skill competencies, and guiding staff career paths.
Reports to the Director or Senior Finance Team Managers. Location flexible (this is a remote position). Part time arrangements possible for exceptional candidates.

What you will do:
- As the front line manager of a team of analysts and finance specialists (generally teams of 2-5 but at least 2), deliver on all of the EdOps People Manager Expectations including:
- Train and coach staff as part of standard training sessions and beyond, so that they meet and exceed expectations for their role and are developing towards their goals.
- Guide and support staff’s career paths through EdOps via discussion, navigation and collaborative planning.
- Develop and conduct Annual Reviews, Mid Year Deep Dives for direct reports with input from EdOps colleagues and clients.
- Address underperformance and develop PIPs as necessary.
- Decide on staff promotion timing (with approval of the Director).
- Create and maintain a team work culture that is inclusive and fair.
- Resolve staff issues as necessary.
- Informing upwards on trends.

- Ensure that their team’s client work meets EdOps quality standards:
- Provide the necessary project management to ensure that EdOps work is completed on timely with general expected quality
- Support in the accounting review of schools and implement team specific QC mechanisms to have reasonable certainty that work meets EdOps standards. Adapt QC processes and cadence as necessary for individuals on their team while ensuring staff are in compliance with EdOps’s standard approach to QC.
- At times, problem solve or find solutions for the more complex parts of the work.
- Serve as an outsourced controller for at least one school by overseeing all day-to-day full-cycle accounting and compliance aspects of the schools:
- Close the books monthly/quarterly/annually and support the preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Oversee federal, state, and local grants administration.
- Serve as a school’s primary contact during annual financial audits and 990 preparation.
- Support the annual budgeting process in partnership with School Finance Managers.
- Liaise with a school’s state education authority (SEA), and the charter authorizer as needed.
- Contribute to Edops’s continual improvement of our finance service line efficiency and accuracy. Gather information, notice trends, and make recommendations to Directors to improve product and processes, identify service/tools needed, and address issues.
- Make recommendations, inform and collaborate with the Director of People Operations to optimize our people operations wide practices and approaches.
- Play an active role in the ongoing recruitment process of new staff.
- Some Managers, who will have a smaller team and/or staffed on fewer clients, can have specializations that encompass responsibilities not outlined here (e.g., overseeing changes to regional compliance, facilities accounting).

- By Year 1 you will have:
- Sharpened your expertise in people management by leading a team of accounting and finance professionals.
- Contributed to the development of the finance team’s operational changes.
- Solved small, real problems for schools on a daily basis.
- Independently managed the annual financial cycle for at least 1 school.
- By Year 3 you will have:
- Contributed to EdOps continual improvement of our finance service line by collaborating on internal process improvements for the finance service line.
- Possibly, specialized in an area of your own interest such as new hire onboarding and training, quality control, tool design and development, or liaising with state education agencies and/or authorizers to ensure new compliance requirements are disseminated to the whole team.
- Continue to manage a team of accounting and finance professionals.
- Continue to solve real problems, small and large, for schools every day.

What you need:
- Experience managing teams of finance or accounting professionals.
- Strong organization and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks Online) and capacity to learn new systems.
- Ability to write and clearly document processes and procedures.
- Intermediate Excel skills.
- Ability to interface professionally with clients.
- Typically, Finance Team Managers have 10+ years of work or post-secondary educational experience, including 3+ years of management or supervisory experience.
- Experience working with schools or non-profit organizations is a plus.
- Audit experience is a plus.
