Whoop is seeking a Field Quality Manager to drive continuous quality improvements across our global manufacturing sites in Mexico and Asia. This role will be responsible for overseeing sustaining quality improvement, managing the Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) program, leading failure analysis of field returns, and ensuring effective use of quality analytics to drive corrective actions and process improvements. The ideal candidate will have strong people management skills, leading and mentoring a team to execute key quality initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners in Mexico and Asia to ensure consistent product quality and process improvements.
- Conduct periodic audits and drive corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) to mitigate risks.
- Work closely with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to improve product quality and reliability.
- Lead and manage a team of field quality engineers to drive quality initiatives across multiple sites.
- Develop and manage the Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) program to identify root causes of early-life failures.
- Oversee Level 0 and Level 1 failure analysis and escalate complex failures for deeper investigation.
- Implement structured 8D, Fishbone, and DMAIC methodologies for failure analysis and resolution.
- Manage and mentor failure analysis teams to ensure structured problem-solving and knowledge-sharing.
- Lead data-driven quality improvement efforts by analyzing field return data, manufacturing defect trends, and customer feedback.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and KPIs to track field quality performance.
- Work with engineering and operations teams to translate failure insights into design and process improvements.
- Partner with Product Design, NPI Hardware Quality, Reliability Engineering, and Operations to enhance product durability and manufacturability.
- Provide technical guidance on failure mechanisms and drive corrective actions with engineering teams.
- Support supplier and contract manufacturer quality teams in resolving systemic issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial) or related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in quality engineering, failure analysis, or field reliability within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- 3-5 years of people management experience, with a track record of leading and developing teams.
- Strong knowledge of FA methodologies (5Why, 8D, DOE, Pareto Analysis, FMEA).
- Hands-on experience with failure analysis tools such as X-ray, FTIR, SEM/EDS, and thermal analysis.
- Proficiency in data analytics and statistical software (JMP, Minitab, Python, SQL, or similar).
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers in global regions, especially Mexico and Asia.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Willingness to travel (30%) to international manufacturing locations.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification preferred (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt).
- Experience in consumer electronics, wearables, or medical devices preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, 13485, and regulatory compliance requirements preferred.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
