Members of the group are involved in the entire cycle of technology research and development, from initial concept ideation, program shaping and proposal development, through execution (including prototype development, integration, and test) and transition of research concepts to BAE Systems' business areas and products.
We are seeking a Technology Development Manager (TDM) for our RF Exploitation Architectures (REXAS) technical area, under the FAST Labs R3 product line, with an emphasis on disruptive EW and software expertise. The REXAS mission is to achieve RF Spectrum Dominance from undersea to space domains through transition of disruptive RF Exploitation Solutions built on Software-defined, Hardware-enabled Architectures. We mature and transition Open Architecture approaches that enable RF Exploitation Solutions to seamlessly integrate and deploy on any hardware or platform, and we are a leading developer/integrator of mission driven software-defined, hardware-enabled solutions.
Successful candidates will be involved in multiple research programs with roles including technical leadership, technical development, customer interaction, program management, or new concept development. This role will be include managing the software portion of the REXAS portfolio, so software, hardware, and system experience is desired. Most programs involve teams comprised of scientists and engineers across multiple disciplines.
The TDM will be the primary lead in engagement with external and internal customers to build, win, and execute programs that support the research and development of advanced technology that enable discriminating capabilities in RF exploitation mission areas and to ensure transition of research efforts into BAE Systems' Business Area's products and services. They are expected to leverage their position, reputation, network, and technical expertise to build and maintain relationships with government R&D organization such as DARPA, ONR, AFRL, OUSD(R&E), etc. Additionally, the candidate is expected to help define and advance the technical and programmatic roadmaps of the group, while maintaining alignment across the broader R3 product line, the FAST Labs organization, and BAE Systems at large.
In this job role, qualified candidates can expect to:
- Contribute to and lead captures and proposals.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, external companies, and other BAE Systems groups and business areas.
- Develop and implement a programmatic strategy to fund technology development.
- Pursue personal and portfolio growth to target standing up, managing, and supporting a team of scientists, researchers, and technology developers.
- Provide business and execution oversight of multiple programs valued at $1-10M each.
- Lead relevant research programs of up to 10-15 people as principal investigator.
The TDM will report to a REXAS Technical Group Lead (TGL) and will be based out of our Merrimack, NH; Burlington, MA; or Arlington, VA facilities, though it will require collaboration with staff across business areas and facilities in the Northeast, National Capital Region (NCR), Dayton OH, Colorado, and other locations. Some travel will be required in this role, generally about 10%.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it can take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely, or an on-site format.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Typically, a bachelor's degree with greater than 10 years of professional experience, or a master's degree and greater than 8 years of professional experience or a Doctorate and greater than 6 years of professional experience.
- Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- Experience providing technical and management leadership to lead a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and managers.
- Experience in at least two of the following areas:
- RF and Digital Hardware Architectures
- Electronic Warfare
- Radar
- Space Technology
- Open Software Architectures
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master's or PhD in electrical engineering, software or related field.
- Prior experience as principal investigator on DoD R&D programs.
- Experience in Big Iron Software Framework or other software open architecture either in implementation, planning for implementation, or managing implementation of apps or host systems
- Other architectures include: Software Communications Architecture (SCA), Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE), Vehicle Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY), C4ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) and Sensor Open System Architecture (SOSA).
- Broad technical network from key Universities and Research Institutions.
- Has an existing network of USG Customer contacts at DoD and IC research and development organizations, or has experience growing and maintaining a customer contact network
- Experience with management of staff resources and financial responsibility.
- Experience as leader/manager of R&D multi-disciplinary project team, including teams executing across multiple sites
- Experience leading across organizational boundaries for broad business impact.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience capturing and leading projects at the cutting edge of technology.
- Ability to define, propose, and lead independent research and development (R&D).
- Track record of technical innovation as evidenced by journal/conference publications, patent filings or other examples of proven innovation.
- Demonstrable entrepreneurial drive.
- Strong desire to collaborate with internal/external customers to improve proliferation of technology.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
