SYSTEM ENGINEER F126

Our high-tech systems are used world-wide by selected partners to protect. We believe every person on this earth has the right to be safe. Our software is the heart of the systems used in critical situations where lives are at stake.

With 80.000 talents working in 68 countries, Thales is one of the biggest high-tech employers in the field of safety and security. In the Netherlands, where 2000 employees are based, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). Together with an extensive ecosystem of knowledge partners, customers and suppliers, we work on radars for naval vessels, cyber security solutions, transportation systems, communication equipment for land forces, cryogenic cooling solutions and research & development for radar tech (in collaboration with TU Delft).

Thales Netherlands is currently working on the largest project in the history of the Thales group: the F126 project. F126 is the first major shipbuilding project of the German Navy in the last 20 years and at the same time its largest ship building program ever. Based on the increasing operational needs, the German Navy plans to build six new multi role combat ships. In order to respond in a flexible way to national and NATO obligations of different types, the modularity of the vessel became a key requirement for the design.

The Thales part of the project is by volume the biggest project in the history of the Thales Netherlands and Thales Germany Naval organizations. To realize this, we are expanding and strengthening our solution engineering capacity with a System engineer.

ABOUT THE JOB

System engineering can be seen as the ‘steering wheel’ in Thales Naval. We determine what engineering and operations need to develop for our customer. System engineers do not only focus on the now, but have to define a system architecture that enables future extensions and improvements of the product.

As a System Engineer you will work together with the system engineers in your team and also with multidisciplinary and self-organizing Agile/Scrum teams. You are a vital link between customers representatives and their requirements, the product roadmap, the product architecture and the development team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing functional problems
  • Definition of components with allocated functionality in our modular architecture
  • Determining/specifying algorithms needed to achieve the correct functionality
  • Depending on the aspect acquiring deep understanding of the requirements of a specific domain (Gun Fire Control, Missile Fire Control, complex scheduling strategies, the combat management system) and subsystems that are integrated
  • Contributing to Objective/Epic/Story refinements so that:
    • our software engineers know what the application is supposed to do and what constraints they need to account for in their software design
    • our test engineers can define appropriate test cases

System engineers are vital to our progress and development. As part of the system engineering team they are responsible for the design of a specific domain or the refinement of specific functionality. Together with other team members you ensure that the right things are built in the right way, at the right time. You ensure that the right information is provided (interface documents, use cases, etc).

Thales offers careers, not just jobs. You will have the opportunity to develop towards senior expert in your area of expertise, or grow to a Product Owner position for a Scrum team.
