WATN WLMT-TV Memphis, TEGNA's ABC/CW affiliate in Memphis, is searching for an experienced and motivated Digital Executive Producer to help lead the day-to-day production of news content across our digital, mobile, app, OTT and social media platforms.

We're looking for a passionate journalist and writer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a keen eye for accuracy and is ready to lead a talented team of digital journalists. The ideal candidate is a journalist at heart and a creative problem-solver with an eye for detail and an insatiable hunger for great content. It’s also equally important to have the qualities of a people-leader who loves to help with teaching and coaching journalists.

This position will help guide editorial decision-making across all platforms, manage strategy and partner with journalists across the newsroom to produce the best possible product. As a newsroom leader, the Digital Executive Producer will have a voice in editorial and leadership meetings alike.

Current driver's license and ability to operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations is required.

Responsibilities

  •   Work with the digital team and overall newsroom to coordinate daily digital news efforts and oversee story selecting, reporting, writing, editing, distributing and live-streaming
  •   Guide the editorial process for the digital team through prioritizing tasks, making story assignments, copy editing and training staff
  •   Collaborate across workgroups to shape daily content, craft original digital content and work special projects focused on rich, interactive digital experiences
  •   Help lead newsroom editorial meetings to make decisions based on social listening, digital data and live metrics
  •   Aggressively cover breaking news for digital/social platforms through articles, videos, breaking news alerts, live-streams and social media posts
  •   Be an excellent multitasker and comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom environment
  •   Champion original, digital-first content production for station platforms
  •   Guide team members on where and how to find story ideas and information, including how to use metrics and social listening to be audience-focused with coverage
  •   Train digital team and extended news department on best digital practices – including SEO and headline writing – to create engaging content that is specific to platforms

Requirements: 

  •        BA/BS in related field - journalism, communications, broadcast, digital media and/or or equivalent combination of education and experience
  •   Minimum 3-5 years writing breaking news articles for digital in a newsroom
  •   Skilled copy editor
  •   Understanding of copyright law, music rights and basic journalism legal principals
  •   Well versed in online metrics such as Google Analytics, CrowdTangle, Facebook Insights, YouTube Analytics, etc.
  •   Working knowledge of Content Management Systems, Basic HTML, AP style and live-stream technology
  •   Strong understanding of all social media platforms and how they contribute to overall success
  •   Keen interest in emerging digital trends and evolving consumption habits
  •        Familiarity with the Memphis area a plus
