- In this role, you will collaborate closely with our investment teams to integrate ESG considerations into investment decision-making, assess climate-related risks and opportunities across our portfolio, and support the implementation of our climate risk work program.
- We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD Office where you can expect to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

About the role
In this role, you'll work closely with investment professionals to integrate ESG considerations into decision-making and provide advice on the climate related risk and opportunities across our investment portfolio. You’ll support the team to implement ESG and climate risk initiatives including climate scenario analysis, data analysis and associated reporting within our investment portfolios.
You’ll also participate in several group wide ESG initiatives and projects, to support Challenger Group in its broader climate regulatory requirements and goals and will work closely and collaboratively with the wider Group ESG and Group Sustainability team.
Other responsibilities will include (but aren’t limited to)
- Portfolio Segmentation: Define inclusions and exclusions, working with the investment teams in establishing a clear framework for segmentation.
- Data Analysis: Manage and analyse ESG and climate data to offer valuable insights for our investment strategies. Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis on ESG and climate metrics across the investments in the CLC and CIM portfolios.
- Reporting & Analysis: Conduct in depth research and benchmark against peers - leveraging annual reports and external data – exploring offshore players as well domestic markets.
- Relationship Building: Build strong relationships with portfolio managers and investment professionals, providing expert ESG insights.
- Trusted Advisor: Provide advice to the investment team on ESG and climate data insights that can be embedded in investment strategies.
- Regulatory Work & Reporting: Contribute to the development of climate disclosures and support regulatory reporting.
- Governance & Strategy Alignment: Work within Challenger’s governance structure to align our sustainability strategy with business goals.
- Strategic Influence: Guide ESG integration, balancing commercial success with a commitment to sustainability.
The skills you’ll need.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional with a strong passion for ESG and investments who excels in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will be strategic, analytical, and eager to contribute to the investment decision-making process. Success in this role will be driven by your ability to build strong relationships, communicate effectively, and manage complex data and investment strategies.
You should have 3–5 years of industry experience, with a strong foundation in finance or investments is essential. The ideal candidate will have proven experience / deep understanding of ESG considerations within an institutional investment context, including relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics.
As well as;
- Good knowledge of investment markets and processes. Understanding of asset management product structures, operating requirements, and disclosure issues.
- Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to deliver articulate, insightful communications to various audiences.
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks and reporting guidelines (e.g., ISSB IFRS s1 and s2, AASB, TCFD, TNFD, GRI).
- Experience in conducting climate risk assessments and scenario analysis.
- Advocate for sustainable investing and ESG principles, dedicated to integrating them into investment strategies to drive long-term value and positive impact.
Technical Skills/Qualifications
- Proficient in Excel and data visualisation tools such as Power BI highly regarded.
- Experience with coding languages such as Python, R, SQL highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance, Data Science, Sustainability, or related fields.
- Qualifications in Climate Risk and/or other ESG related qualifications are highly regarded.
