This opportunity sits within the Environmental Test Engineering Team in the Chelmsford Space Imaging business unit. Although located in the Space Imaging Division, the Environmental Test Engineering team provides a service to all Space Imaging, RF Power and other Teledyne companies. This involves performing a range of mechanical tests, including vibration, mechanical shock, structural analysis, packaging assessment and climatic tests including thermal, humidity, altitude and salt spray. These tests form part of design proving, qualification approval or may be part of the routine testing of Teledyne-e2v products. The Environmental Test Engineer will report to the Environmental Test Engineering Team Leader.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
This job opening is available to all levels – Graduate, Senior, Principal.
The following responsibilities are required of an Environmental Test Engineer:

Data Analysis: Record, analyse test results, report, and present test data effectively to customers.

Uphold Engineering Standards: Guarantee compliance with processes and best practices to achieve successful engineering governance and gate reviews.

Adhere to Standards: Work according to relevant standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DEF-STD, BS-EN) and within the defined specifications of environmental tests.

Support Design and Manufacture: Assist in the design, manufacture, analysis & test of jigs for mechanical and thermal testing.

Finite Element Analysis: Providing jig survey results to Mechanical Analysis team for benchmarking and refinement of models.

Review and Align Test Plans: Ensure test plans meet standards and verify our capability to perform the testing.

Maintain Equipment: Collaborate with the team to ensure all equipment and test items are maintained and calibrated in a compliant and safe environment.

Planned maintenance and fault finding – Control routine maintenance tasks and fault finding on equipment to minimise equipment downtime

Ensure Throughput: Be responsible and accountable for maintaining the throughput of work to ensure on-time and quality testing.

Customer Liaison: Liaise with internal and external customers effectively to agree start and delivery times.

Represent the Team: Attend meetings to present the work carried out by the Environmental Test Engineering group.

Innovate Continuously: Be proactive in developing new ideas, systems, and processes with a constant focus on continuous improvement,

Future lab capability & Capacity: Develop plans to meet future project requirements & demands. This may involve proposing CAPEX expenditure.

Provide Engineering Feedback: Offer support and feedback to the design team after conducting surveys of the mechanical interface jigs.

Prioritise Health and Safety: Ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety requirements, adhering to best practices within the team.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

Educational Background: Hold a relevant degree in engineering or science, or have equivalent experience.

Technical Expertise: Possess a solid understanding of product testing in laboratory or industrial settings.

Project Experience: Skilled in reviewing and meeting technical and project requirements.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Positive Attitude: Maintain a "can do" outlook, capable of challenging and managing stakeholder expectations.

Multi-tasking Ability: Efficiently handle multiple assignments, delivering high-quality results with energy and commitment.
