Job Description
As the Environmental Permits and Approvals Coordinator, you are a senior member of the environment team and responsible for all aspects of managing the application and implementation of Environmental Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements (PLAA) as required by the Project. You will work closely and under the direction of the Environmental Manager and PLA Manager and in collaboration with the larger Environment and PLA teams, Construction Managers and the Metrolinx to advance Project environment PLA requirements.
Responsibilities:

Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant governmental authorities and stakeholders through the Contracting Authority Representative.

Review project documents (e.g., drawings, reports, and contracts) to identify permit and approval requirements.

Scheduling, arranging, and coordinating meetings with the city and other external stakeholders.

Working collaboratively with the PLAA Manager to ensure key project permits are supported with necessary environmental related input and review.

Prepare, submit, and track all required environmental PLAA applications, including but not limited to TRCA VPR submissions, DFO applications under the Canadian Fisheries Act, MECP Species at Risk permit etc. In addition, you will work closely, sometimes in a lead role, in the development and application of EASRs, PTTW, and CoT tree permits).

Utilize the PLAA Tracking System to track the progress of environmental PLAAs throughout the project.

Coordinate environmental input to the permit tracker and permit repository to manage records of comments, responses, submissions, and resubmissions of permit applications.

Ensure that all plans and records related to environmental PLAA are uploaded into registries as required by Governmental Authorities and Contracting Authorities.

Identify potential issues affecting environmental PLAAs, define mitigation measures, and report to the Environmental Compliance Officer

Required Skills and Competencies

A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering or related field.

Minimum five (10) years of professional experience.

ISO 14001 Auditor training and/or certification an asset
-
Experience in successfully managing the process of procuring all environmental permits and approvals on transit projects in the Province of Ontario.

Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental policies, procedures and legislation.

Ability to liaise with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities.

Experience in the design and/or construction industry or major infrastructure project.

Working knowledge of commonly used desktop applications such as MS Office,

Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and SharePoint.

Interpersonal and excellent communication skills.

Ability to work independently in high-paced environments.

Working knowledge of design and construction industry practices.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements, third-party permits, and approval processes, as well as environmental and property approvals pertinent to large infrastructure and transit projects.

Sound judgment, excellent problem-solving skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
