Job Responsibilities
- Oversees all aspects of environmental compliance at the Stickney Plant
- Submits reports required by regulations, permits or agency requests in a timely fashion
- Collaborates with production and supports leadership to maintain compliance with all permits and applicable regulations
- Conducts and/or ensures environmental training is completed per DOT/IATA, RCRA, SPCC, HAZWOPER, etc.
- Approves all plant CERs for environmental compliance and potential impacts
- Acts as the regulatory liaison with governmental agencies
- Assists and advises plant personnel in all areas of environmental compliance
- Key participant in environmental incident investigations
- Responsible for maintaining RC14001 management system. Frequently collaborates with plant leadership team and key personnel to maintain RC14001 management system certificate; participates in audits (internal and external), management-of-change events and management review
- Develops and submits accurate reports, such as excess emissions, permit deviations, compliance certifications, raw material throughput and emissions inventories to the Illinois EPA accurately and on time.
- Coordinates the Startup, Shutdown and Malfunction (SSM) Plan for emissions units at the plant.
- Maintains QC Plan for the Continuous Emissions Monitors (CEMS).
- Ensures that required preventive maintenance and testing are performed on the CEMS, including calibrations, cylinder audits, etc.
- Collaborates with the plant leadership team and key personnel to ensure timely reporting of incidents, inspections/audits, agency interaction and sustainability performance indicators in the management information system (FOCUS)
- Closely monitor contractor work for various environmental projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university
- At least three years of environmental compliance experience at industrial or plant facility
- Knowledge of RC14001, ISO14001, ISO9001 and/or other ISO-based management systems preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Illinois and USEPA laws and regulations (air, wastewater, waste, DOT, and any other applicable regulations) and required reports
- IEPA Class K Wastewater License preferred
- Excellent planning, analytical and communication skills
- Self-starter and problem solver
- Organized and able to maintain good records/files
- Process simulation in ChemCAD
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
