ABOUT FATHOM
We think it’s insane that so many people and businesses rely on notes to remember and share insights from their meetings.
Notes are time-consuming and stressful to create while trying to hold a conversation. Even when done well, notes are a poor solution compared to hearing something first-hand.
We started Fathom to rid us all of the tyranny of note-taking, and people seem to really love what we've built so far:
🥇 #1 Highest Satisfaction Product of 2024 on G2
🔥 #1 Rated on G2 with 4,500+ reviews and a perfect 5/5 rating
🥇 #1 Product of the Day and #2 AI Product of the Year
🚀 Most installed AI meeting assistant on both the Zoom and HubSpot marketplaces
📈 We’re hitting usage and revenue records every week
We're growing incredibly quickly, so we're looking to grow our small but mighty team.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager who is excited to roll up their sleeves and contribute hands-on from day one. You’ll be leading a small team of senior engineers, but also expected to stay close to the code as you help us scale our distributed systems and evolve our service architecture.
This is a great role for someone who’s been a strong IC in high-scale environments and has 2+ years of experience managing senior engineers in a fast-paced setting.
You’ll report to our CTO and work closely with our infrastructure and application teams, as well as our world-class customer support org.
HOW YOU'LL HELP US WIN
You’ll lead a team responsible for building and scaling the core backend systems that power Fathom. This includes both hands-on development and guiding others through system design, execution, and technical decisions.

HARD SKILLS
-
Have deep hands on experience with Go and Kubernetes (including garbage collection, performance tuning, profiling)

Have managed services deployed in GCP, running on GKE, containerized via Docker, and working within a Linux environment
-
Are familiar with other parts of our stack (or equivalents): Ruby/Rails, Redis, ffmpeg
-
Have 2+ years experience managing senior engineers in a high-ownership environment
-
Have worked in SaaS or PaaS environments at scale (we process 100s of millions of async jobs weekly)
-
Prioritize clarity, accountability, and pragmatism over process for process’s sake
-
Are comfortable being a player-coach—balancing IC work with technical leadership and people management

Bonus points for experience with video streaming at scale, Cgo, or hybrid local/cloud processing models
SOFT SKILLS
-
You have strong instincts for systems-level thinking and making tradeoffs at scale
-
You love working across disciplines and care about the business impact of your work
-
You have high attention to detail and are comfortable navigating complex or ambiguous problems
-
You have a bias for action but value thoughtful debate before committing
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
-
The opportunity to shape the foundational software services of a growing company
-
A high-leverage role with broad technical ownership
-
The chance to grow a team and shape how we scale Fathom’s core services
-
No bureaucracy—just a smart, kind, highly productive team shipping real things
-
Competitive compensation and benefits
-
A supportive environment that encourages innovation and personal growth
ABOUT THE INTERVIEW
No live coding. We have no idea who thought writing code on whiteboards was a good idea but we hate it. We’re much more interested in what you’ve done and learned.
-
You’ll meet the entire team. We think it’s important that you get to meet everyone you’ll be working with.
-
No bullshit. Ask us anything you like. We’ve never understood why companies pretend they’re something that they’re not in the hiring process - you’re going to find out eventually so we’d rather you know who we are up front so we can both make sure this is a good fit for all involved.
-
Quick turnaround time. We know you have lots of options so we move fast usually in less than a week from start to finish.

What We Do
Fathom is a free app that records, transcribes, summarizes, and highlights the key moments from your Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls so you can focus on the conversation instead of taking notes.
