As Engineering Manager, your role is to oversee two teams of talented engineers and ensure that the development process runs smoothly. You will work closely with product managers, delivery, your manager, and other stakeholders to prioritise development initiatives and deliver high-quality software.


You will support the recruitment and onboarding of new team members, as well as providing guidance and support to your existing team. You will work with individual engineers to set goals, provide feedback, and ensure that they have the resources they need to succeed.


You will help foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within your team. This includes encouraging your team to experiment with new technologies and approaches, sharing best practices and lessons learned, and promoting a culture of learning and growth.


You’ll have the option to join your team developing code or leave it entirely to them. You’ll be expected to learn an in-depth understanding of your teams’ services to represent the team in larger engineering or product discussions, optimizing the teams’ time and reducing their context switching.

As our new Engineering Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Set goals and priorities for your engineering team.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to individual team members to help them achieve their goals.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, such as code reviews, testing, and bug triage.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as product management and delivery, to ensure that development work is aligned with business goals & needs.
  • Build and maintain a strong engineering culture, including fostering innovation, promoting technical excellence, and encouraging continuous learning and improvement.
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new team members.
  • Report on engineering progress and metrics to the VP Engineering 

You’ll have:

  • Experience in software engineering, with a deep understanding of modern software development practices and technologies.
  • Experience in a management role, with a proven track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • The ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A passion for mentoring and coaching team members, with a focus on helping individuals grow and achieve their goals.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and improvement, with a desire to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in technology and software engineering
  • A passion for Agile methodologies, understanding core concepts of Scrum, Kanban and Lean.
  • Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and React.js
  • Familiarity with modern web development tools and practices, such as ES6, MobX, AWS, Serverless, Microservices, GraphQL, Docker, New Relic, Webpack.
  • Proven ability to design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable software solutions.
