The Observability team at Grab is a dynamic group of engineers dedicated to enhancing system visibility and performance. Get to Know the Role
As an Engineering Manager II for the Observability team, you'll help lead projects that enhance our monitoring and observability capabilities. This position is based in Vietnam and offers a hybrid work model, allowing for flexibility in your work environment. You will report directly to your manager in Singapore, collaborating closely with teams across the region to ensure our systems are reliable.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of regional engineers working on critical infrastructure and vendor pieces supporting our Observability departments, while promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Delegate responsibilities, ensuring agreement on team and organizational goals.
- Develop and implement Observability strategies, and best practices around monitoring to improve the troubleshooting journey and reduce time-to-resolution of issues.
- Advocate for using Observability tools to improve awareness and adoption.
Qualifications
What Essential Skills You Will Need
- You have 5 or more years of experience building software products and at least 3 years as a engineering manager or a team lead
- Experience with the Observability departments (logs, metrics, and traces)
- Experience operating bespoke logging pipelines at scale, e.g. Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Clickhouse
- Experience with vendor Observability products like Datadog, ServiceNow suite.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, and orchestration languages like Ansible.
- Fluency in any backend programming language like C++, Java, Golang, and Python.
- Experience operating in an environment with complex microservice architectures spanning numerous teams.
- You have a background in software development, with a understanding of the fundamentals of software architecture
- You have good fluency in English (both written and verbal)
